Just saw this open source aerial mapping application, it could be of interest for future projects. It uses telemetry data to scale, orient, and project images to real world mapping systems:

I passed that along to stewart to check out. I think it requires quite
a bit of data from the flight log ... i.e. gps is not good enough, it
wants IMU readings. Not 100% sure, but thats my initial take after
reading it.
