As of yet, the best community calendar I've come across is on the
KAMUnity Events calendar:

Personally, I like the performing arts, and as such, I've somewhat
filtered a live query to the above site and reformatted for my cell
phone. You're welcome to try it out:

and let me know how it works/doesn't work for you. Simple links across
the top help narrow your search with a little more ease and speed than
the real site. Next wave of this same project will allow provide
storing the event data in my own db-- this will allow for super-fast
access (the kamunity site, served up from a shared server somewhere in
New England, is pretty sluggish).
