Dear Friends:
I would like to invite you to attend the first fully staged student production by the Fine Arts Department at Blinn College, Bryan Campus.  We will open our first season with David Ives' "All in the Timing."  Please note, we are not performing at the Blinn College campus; we are in residence at the Theater Company facilities (Tejas Shopping Center).   We are hoping to see you at one of the performances.

All the best,
Marcelo

This absurd, award-winning comedy consists of a series of vignettes full of brilliant wordplay.   The play creates a near perfect inspection of the English language – and of the audience’s aptitude for perplexity and joy.  Ives’s characters are thrust into black holes called “Philadelphias,” where the simplest desires are uproariously frustrated.  Chimps named Milton, Swift, and Kafka are locked in a room and made to write no less a masterpiece than Hamlet.  And a con man peddles courses in an invented language in which “welcome” translates as “velcro” and “fraud” comes out as “freud.” Playwright David Ives uses wordplay in his one-act plays “to support the notion that people have a better chance of connecting with each other if they never speak.”

The first act, entitled "Sure Thing," revolves around the first meeting between a man and a woman that is continually reset by an alarm each time one of them says the wrong thing. In the next piece, "Words, Words, Words," surmises what if three chimpanzees set down at typewriters to create their own version of "Hamlet."

The play is the very first production performed by the Bryan Campus’ new Theater Program.  Directed by Department professor, Greg Wise and designed by department faculty Jean Daniels.  All in the Timing opens October 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 2010.  Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. evenings, 2:00 p.m Sunday Matinee on Oct. 24.  No show on Halloween.  Tickets are available at the door one hour prior to curtain at The Theatre Company (located behind Joann's Fabric Store in the Tejas Shopping Center on Villa Maria St.)  $5 for those with College I.D., $10 for adults & non-students.  Cash or Check only please.
