Yes, this morning's event at Heritage Park was a good production-- live music was fun, hot dogs hot and free, and all families attending seemed to really mingle well and enjoy themselves. I heard it was record turnout this year!
My wife Julia and I are very much supporters of the arts if only in our hearts lately: schedules just don't allow for all the participation we'd like. We both come from musical families, and playing with local groups for this and that is fun when time permits. We check out visual arts now and again at the local galleries/
First Fridays/Art Step, and I try my hand at some sculpting and painting on occasion when time overlaps with inspiration. My favorite passtime is small ensemble playing: quartet, duet, etc. I haven't sung madrigal in a long time, but that is an enjoyable challenge as well.
A really fabulous concert series is the Friends of Chamber's Concerts on Carter Creek put on at the Presbyterian church there. They bring in some good talent, and the performances are free! I wish I had a schedule to share, and alas, I think they are almost over if not already..
The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra (
www.bvso.org) has a good program lined up for the coming season, and this ~30yr old organization has been professional status for, what, 2years now? Don't quote me on that...
Anyone know of any quality dance performances around? It seems there used to be a belly dancing troupe, some modern dance offshoots here and there.. My wife and I enjoy So You Think You Can Dance and would like to take in something along those lines one day. I hear there is a group that meets weekly? down at Brazos Village Cafe in downtown Bryan for open Swing Dance sessions. (and if you've not been to that little restaurant/art shop, you are missing out).
What brings you to this list?
