I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Andreas Levers, a photographer from Germany. His sublime architectural photography made a huge impression on me when I featured his work in our Artist Watch just a couple days ago. I wanted to learn more about the man behind these bold, precise shots.

Andreas Levers: While I like photography very much I would not want to give up my current job. It is varied and fun, jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none work, and last but not least, stable. Knowing the struggles of some pro photographers in my area I came to believe that I would lose the enthusiasm and creativity once I had to make a living from photography.

Andreas Levers: I have no formal education in photography and took merely snapshots before I bought my first D-SLR around 4 years ago. The first few thousands of pictures were just learning by doing. After I met with some other enthusiasts and participated in photowalks and regular meet-ups to discuss images, I invested far more energy and time.

Constructive feedback and encouragement from peers, in real life and online, is very valuable to me. While I own some literature and instructional videos I firmly believe that setting myself goals and pushing myself to take better pictures makes me learn the most.

Andreas Levers: I attribute some of it to my bad eyesight that makes me wear glasses which interfere with my perception of depth. Beyond that I really forced myself to see a scene in only two dimensions and cover one eye to shift my perception of a room. If the environment allows it I walk around with the viewfinder raised to my eye and closely watch how objects and lines change while I move slowly. If possible I try to put a space in relation to a known shape or silhouette whenever possible. A lot of my preferred shots feature human silhouettes that provide context to otherwise abstract shapes. With all these approaches I try to close a gap between the experience and what I can capture.

Andreas Levers: At first I try to find interesting locations either by walking around the city aimlessly or by searching the web for information on unusual buildings. When I go for a specific building or location I try to get the best possible weather and timing as light is something you can not influence in exterior photography.

For the technical part, I use a Canon 5D Mark II with several different lenses. To preserve as much latitude as possible I take my shots in RAW and organize them in Bridge for further editing in Photoshop. Most of the time I have a quite clear vision of the result I want to achieve in post processing. With architectural images the editing steps are selective contrast and tonal adjustments, fixing minor glitches like lens flares and increasing local contrast.

Andreas Levers: There are too many to mention them all but here are some of my Flickr contacts whose work I admire very much: Joel Tjintjelaar because each of his seascapes is an escape into a more quiet world; Adam Baker because he is a master in landscape and macro photography; Gerd Mittelberg who has a talent to find interesting photos in the most mundane urban places.

Andreas Gerhard Reichert, 30, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 24, 2023, after battling cancer. He was surrounded by his family singing his favorite worship songs as he left to join his Lord and Savior in Heaven.

Born on January 19, 1993, in Ottawa, Ontario, Andreas was the firstborn son of Gerhard and Gayle (Sloan) Reichert. Andreas graduated from Claymont High School after spending his junior year growing and sharing Jesus at an International Christian Tennis Academy in Florida. He went on to pursue Computer Science at Baldwin Wallace and Business Administration at Kent State University, befriending everyone he met along the way. As he grew up, Andreas chose to stay close to home, working many years at Progressive Foam Technologies, diving into financial investment strategies to help those in need, and most recently, welcoming every customer with a smile in retail sales at Lowes.

Andreas said he had a wonderful life. Throughout his cancer journey, Andreas often stated that he was just grateful for God and salvation, no matter the outcome. Despite many difficult trials in his life, Andreas was always grateful and content knowing he had the love of God. Even during the last meeting with his cancer doctor at Akron General, his heart shined as he ended the time praying with her, thanking God for the help she and the entire medical team provided him. Andreas always found reasons to pray and thank God. He was the best worshipper of us all, so it was only right that Andreas left this earth after worshipping with his family.

Andreas will be deeply missed and is survived by his parents, Gerhard and Gayle Reichert; siblings, Tanya Reichert, Tobias (Riley) Reichert, and the beloved family dog, Ginger; his Opa, Friedhold Reichert; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives; and the countless neighbors, classmates, and coworkers Andreas gladly called his friends. Like Jesus, Andreas was a stranger to none and friend to all.

Andreas always wanted to return to Mongolia for missions work with the Cofer family. In lieu of gifts or flowers, his family asks that memorial contributions be directed in his honor to the missions work in Mongolia. Gifts may be directed to the Andreas Reichert Memorial Fund on GoFundME.

Since May of 2021, SerenityOS has been my full-time job. This terrifying but exciting leap was made possible by recurring donations from generous people who like what I do and want to see it continue.

Later on, when GitHub Sponsors opened up, I got in as early as I could. Not only did they have zero fees, but they also offered to match the first $5,000 in donations. And once again, some people actually signed up!

Once the channel grew large enough, I was able to enable monetization in the form of ads. I felt a bit weird about this, since I use an ad blocker myself, but I figured that the kind of person who watches my content is perfectly aware of ad blockers and can make their own decisions about them.

They advised me to start a business, since it would make accounting much more straightforward, so in 2021 I formed Cerphus Software AB. The name comes from the imaginary software company I had as a child. :^)

As you can see, the numbers above put me at roughly $4200 this month. My wife and I live a modest life, and while taxes in Sweden are high, this is enough to break even where we are right now.

Andreas Lubnitz Runningpertaining to discoveries about the Germanwings airbus that crashed into the Alps in France on the 24th March 2015. Clearly, it appears that Andreas was ambitious, in that he achieved his childhood dream of being a pilot and flying aeroplanes. It also appears that he was beset by inner feeling of failure and loss, expressed by his earlier depression, two years ago.

However, it appears that he was not noticed, not heard, not really listened to in the years before this event. His superiors thought he was fine and he passed the tests with flying colours. His whispers were not being heard. And then, finally he made a murderous decision. In doing so, he has made us all take notice. Now we are listening, but are we hearing the whispers of Andreas Lubitz, from that graveyard mountain in France?

It is my guess that flying gave Andreas Lubitz an immense sensation of freedom and self-control. Something he was not able to find in other circumstances. For the few moments that he was the lead pilot and was alone at the controls, his split self, or alter ego took over, the part of himself that saw death as an escape from the jailhouse of life. The part of himself that could no longer contain his smouldering rage and self hatred, once alone in the cockpit, had ultimate control over life and death. A powerful position indeed.

Really? And what will you say to his mother if she finds this blog post, full of supposition, nonsense and unscientific hoodo and she tells you she did all the things you are claiming would have made a difference yet he still ended up mentally unwell and so disturbed he took his own life and those of 149 others? I hope she never finds this article.

These are exactly the kind of questions Ive had since this horrible thing happened. But it seems as if few people were wondering about it. This is the reason why society as a whole sees to understand and learn so little about this kind of events, and blame it on the medicines or drugs a person may have been taking. So thanks for expressing it so clearly.

It has been shown in studies that those people who suffered birth trauma are more likely to commit suicide than the general population. They also tend to kill themselves in a way that mirrors the birth trauma they went through. Thus someone with cord trauma may be more likely to hang themselves, those who were born choking on fluid are more likely to drown themselves, those whose mothers were drugged, are more likely to overdose on drugs and those who because anoxic are more likely to kill themselves by suffocation. In the deep-feeling regressive therapies, reliving birth trauma can help these people get some degree of relief.
