ThePreSonus Studio Channel channel strip is a wonderful studio tool that's great for live performance, too. Featuring a tube preamp, VCA-based compressor, and three-band EQ, it delivers a huge variety of timbres. With XLR mic, balanced -inch line, and unbalanced -inch instrument inputs and balanced XLR and -inch outputs, you can connect it to almost any audio interface, amp or PA.
The Class A preamp starts with a high-output 12AX7 tube for lots of headroom and big tone. Gain and Tube Drive controls enable a wide range of sounds, from transparent and clear to edgy and overdriven. A -20 dB pad, 80 Hz high-pass filter and polarity reverse let you tweak your signals.
Our VCA-based compressor is known for musicality and fast attack, with the ability to tame the fastest transients so you can record blazing-hot signals with accurate dynamics control. In addition to ratio, threshold, attack, release and gain controls, it offers an Auto Attack/Release feature with preset attack and release curves. The backlit VU meter displays gain reduction or output gain.
The three-band EQ is a precision tool that can be pre- or post-compressor, and you can bypass each stage independently. Custom-designed amps deliver sweet-sounding gain and cut for smooth highs, clear midrange and deep, solid lows. The midrange band is fully parametric, with variable Q, while the high- and low-frequency bands are semi-parametric, with Frequency and Gain controls, and can be shelving or peak bands.
That is not quite correct, because the hi and lo cut do not belong to the channel EQ but the PRE section (the layout is a bit confusing, granted), so they are in a different position of the signal path per default.
The standard channel eq uses hardly any processing power , so although sounding good, they obviously cut certain things to keep it so low. The studio eq & frequency 2 must be using a higher standard of algorithm & also use slightly more processing power?? Makes sense in most cases yes??
For such a wide range of applications you need a very flexible tool, from what you have described I would definitely recommend you start with our fantastic Scheps Omni Channel, with three types of compression, three types of saturation, EQ that is either surgical, colorful or both and a groundbreaking DeEsser you can do almost anything.
Any stage/s of your chain can be processed in Mid/Sides!

If I was forced to choose only one, I also think that Omni would be the best choice. It is very versatile, including ability to host another plugin. TG Mastering would be my second choice. It is not exactly a channel strip, but can be used as one.
Other features of the preamp include a standard 48V phantom power and 80Hz high pass filter at 18dB/octave. The roll-off on the filter is enough to deal with wind and vibration transfer from the mic stand without affecting the overall tone of the mics I use. The input levels are visible thanks to 4 LEDs that indicate the amount of signal passing through the preamp.
The density knob is more straightforward: it is a release time knob with fully counterclockwise giving the slowest release and fully clockwise giving the fastest. The attack time is program dependent. Low level signal changes gives a slow attack time of up to 1s while faster, sudden jumps in level, achieve faster attack times down to less than 10ms. Although the controls are omitted, having a program dependent attack leaves percussive instruments punchy while speech is smoothed out. A clever decision by dbx that favors simplicity with little compromise.
Next is the de-esser, again a straightforward affair. Frequency determines the center of where the de-esser clamps down and threshold dictates how hard it does it. Nothing too complex here but a welcome addition to an already feature-packed channel strip.
The great price point and feature set make it great value for any studio. Even comparing it with more expensive channel strips, it packs enough of a punch to hang with the big boys, especially with how well the dynamics are handled.
I would like signal from a certain channel strip to be able to trigger a snapshot. The specific context is that whenever dialogue in our game triggers I want to be able to duck music and various aspects of our mix. I could put snapshot triggers in all my events, but that would be a great deal of work. Is there a way to use snapshots via the mixer?
