Your Library and Librarians understand the value of offering a wide breadth of services to you. In keeping with our philosophy of the library as a community center, we have expanded our space and our offerings to the community far beyond books. Brandon Library houses a seed library, offers space for community service for high school students and mandated adults, free and reduced-price passes to state parks, museums and historical sites, free bread and we make the voting process almost effortless.
The BFPL Seed Library was founded in 2013 and is housed in the old oak card catalog at Brandon Library. Through specific environmental grant-obtained funding and donations from seed companies in Vermont we are able to offer free vegetable, flower and herb seeds to the public. In addition to the seeds, we offer free monthly education focused on environmental issues, growing/seed saving, gardening and sustainability. The BFPL Seed Library currently has a member count of 45 community members and continues to grow quickly. Check out the seed library website for more details: www.bfplseedlibrary.org.
You can fill out an online member form on the website or pick one up at the library. This program is completely free to you.
Your library is always looking at community need and trying to fill it where we are able. The local high school relies on us as a site to provide meaningful opportunity to fill credit requirements. We have students each year that choose to do their community service requirement at the Library. We also work with local corrections to provide a safe and friendly space for mandated community service through the court system.
We recognize the different opportunities in our area for education and recreation and we want you to get out there and have fun! We provide free day passes to the Vermont State Parks that admit up to 8 people in one vehicle to any state park in Vermont for an entire day. We have a Historical Sites pass that works the same way, but for Vermont’s Historical Sites. We also offer a reduced-price pass to the Lake Champlain Echo Center and Aquarium that reduces your admission to $4. All of these passes check out for 24 hours and can be obtained right at the circulation desk.
Every Wednesday, the Brandon Food Shelf brings a huge delivery of free bread. Everything from pita bread, rolls, flatbread, organic loaves, focaccia, to baguettes and more fills the top of one of our low shelves. Come on in and help your grocery budget stretch.
Brandon Library loves voters! We want to help enable voters to get their voice counted. One of the ways we help is by providing voter registration forms. Did you know you can fill them out right at the library and leave them? We will deliver them to the town office for you. It doesn’t get much easier than that! We also provide rides to the polls on Election Day if you don’t drive or have a hard time getting yourself there. Just call the library to set this up. (802) 247-8230

“I do things like get in a taxi and say, "The library, and step on it.”
