Dear comrades
Yeah, lets leave that shooting business behind. there is too much goodness in the world to get dragged down by such madness. And we will depart Iraq for a while too. But, great to see our ozzie boys into the WC final. I havent seen a ball, but have been hearing a bit online etc.Final should be cracker v Lankis, chucker always a tough prospect to face, but i think Punters XI prob too much depth. I remember watching the last final v Sri Lanki, inc Stuie Law dropping a sitter in the outfield at a critical moment. Or maybe that was another game? Whatever... Hope you all have a great weekend. Fi, dont think i will be able to make it there for June, but will think of some virtual particpation.
hugs to youse all

Ferg, my friend, I couldn't really add to what you have written. There are indeed people in this country who think that giving every student a couple of magnums each (not the ice-cream) would have prevented that massacre. Oi-vey!! Movin' on!
We will be in Brisbane on the Queen's Birthday weekend and are going to have a little get together on the evening of Saturday 9th June (venue being investigated but probably somewhere central).
We would love to see you all there and hope you can come.
If you are up for it, pencil us in!!

It is a massive understatement to suggest that the images from the Virginia shootings are disturbing. Where will this type of madness end? Media saturation continues, every day bringing a new dissection of an angry and extremely ill man, a new witnesses, a new (ex)-friend. Unbelievably awful business. The proponents are lining up. Gun controllers on one side, gun toters on the other (if only the teachers had guns they could have popped the shooter!).
Fiona, your views valued on this one especially. What's the word from your 'hood?
And what is to be made Barack Obama? I came across a blog which had a speech where he suggested the US is a violence obsessed culture. "We glorify it, we encourage it, we ignore it." Not sure Dubya would concur, publicly. And then introduced Iraq and suggested US culture of violence is rooted in an incapacity to understand we are all connected fundamentally as people and trapped in a belief that we can impose our wills on each other and differentiate ourselves and make ourselves feel better from one another because of the accidents of birth or race or gender. "We base our decisions in terms of sending our young men and women to war not on the necessity of defending ourselves but the belief that somehow with military force we can achieve aims that should be achieved through diplomacy and alliances." Interesting times ahead, if he gets any traction.
Just some ramblings for the weekend. Hope you all have a good one.
Hugs
