There is no research that I am aware of which indicates that qnb would be better than dnb. Jaeggi did find more effect when testing snb rather than dnb, but her research has been under quite alot of criticism.
Personally I switched to qcb because I found it more to my liking than dnb. The method I use is that I chunk the auditory letters by 3(which seems pretty common), and just visualize position, color and visual letter together. Color is lagging behind in the percentage of correct answers, why, I don't really know.

I reach dual 4-back (position + sound) by intuition; however, I barely surpass quad 2-back (position + sound + color + images). Apparently I do not remember images and colors as well, so I wonder how everyone else does it. I looked through the FAQ section, and claims scores as high as Q6B was attained. I don't see as much talk about QNB as much as DNB though. Does QNB not benefit more? I think it offers better results, but perhaps that is because I find more difficulty memorizing than recalling in DNB.
