Hey all,

I've been interested in this forum for a while, but been too lazy to properly engage in the training.

I started beginning-mid of February I think, and use the N-back challenge app. I delete my account info and details to start over when I run out of coffees, so all in all I've had 14-15 practice sessions thus far, consisting of 12 trials each.

I know from experience I have a poor working memory, at least relative to my friends. I score low on Human Benchmark's Chimp Test and most Rehearsal Tasks. I have yet to test these AFTER my training because I wanted to wait till I get to 10 back.

Anyways, I've been consistently sticking 5-back using rehearsal strategies at this point. The rate of progress is too quick so I am suspicious that I am getting acclimated to the game, and my unwillingness to test my working memory in other ways made me reach out.

Should I not be using rehearsal? What sort of effects should I see if there is far transfer at this point?

On a side note, there's a paper showing striatal changes as important to n-back gains
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27683914/
And it's known that nicotine increases striatal plasticity. I've been upregulating my nAchrs with nicotine and I've noticed staying gains even on days I don't take my nicotine 4 mg lozenge (cut into 4ths but taken all at once)

Do lozenges increase n-back performance?
