Hi Paul,
Nice graphic for the group logo :) If you don't mind I will most
likely link to this forum from my site. It seems like my site hasn't
been getting a whole lot of attention, so we wouldn't notice any
unwanted traffic (ie. Mr.Spambot). I just wanted to pass this by you
since you have been kind enough to start the new group, and will be
moderating for us.

Like I was saying in my previous post, I plan on integrating a forum
in to the mindflow site. When that's complete; I will most likely send
an invite to everyone involved here.
I really just want to generate interest in both of our applications.
Although there have been plenty of insightful forum posts, I would
really like to see more from users on how it has affected them. The
more information we can show of practical relevance should generate
more interest. One would hope anyway.

Oh, and I've got a quick interesting bit of a story to tell. During an
interview for a position at the school I was discussing my interest in
interactive web development. Well I showed of "themindflow.com" to the
directors I was speaking with. I don't think they were quite sure
about what I was doing, but they did suggest I bring it to the
psychology department. So it would seem that the school may have some
interest, despite my lack of motivation to go pitch it properly. We'll
see.

LSaul,
Thanks for the link. Lets see how fast we can grow this group. With a bit of publicity I bet we could exceed the 500 members of the old one.

I'm open to suggestions for a more "neutral" logo. :) Apart from the BW release posts I try to keep everything generic, because each version of dual n-back is valuable for a different reason and helps spread the word.

Your experience with the interview is encouraging. I'd like to see how the psych department in my school would react to dual n-back. For someone like me with no knowledge of the structure of the department, the best strategy might be to speak with a grad student to gauge what kind of reception I can expect and to find out who the best person to talk to would be. Plus, if I were a psych grad student, I would seriously consider the opportunity to use one of the ready-made DNB implementations to perform some cutting-edge research and get noticed.

I don't have a Mac so I'm not sure what the exact problem might be. Does the IDLE editor appear in your Applications list? If so, try launching that and opening brainworkshop.pyw from within IDLE.

If it doesn't work or you can't find IDLE, try installing Python 2.5.2:
http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.2/python-2.5.2-macosx.dmg

Over the Christmas break I'll try to prepare a real Mac binary which will remove the need to mess about with Python.

nothing happens at all.  This is the 6th time I have attempted this
and still no luck.  Please tell, am I doing something wrong?

There might also be a way to change the file association of .pyw files in the OS X settings.

I had the same problem. I am also running OS X. The previous version
of Python worked just fine for me. If you have installed a previous
version, it should still be on your computer. Run your finder, and
locate the IDLE app. If you have an older version of Python, you
should have an older version of IDLE. Launch that version and try
using it to run brainworkshop.

If you don't have an older version of Python, you may be able to find
it somewhere. Look for Python 2.4

Wish I could give you better news, but you can at least run BW.

Paul,

I just want to let you know that on triple N-Back you don't get bumped
down to a lower level if you score less that 50%.

AshDog,
This is probably due to a "three strikes" system I added a while ago to make the game more forgiving for new players. One of the small squares in the top left corner will change color as you get scores below 50%. If you get 3 scores below 50% (not necessarily consecutively) the level will be bumped down.

If you prefer the old behavior (level is decreased right away when below 50%), set THRESHOLD_FALLBACK_SESSIONS = 1 in the config file.
