Dear N-backers,
I've recently found this exercise - and I'm intrigued & dumbfounded about the powerful effects of it.
I'd like to ask you guys a few questions - I hope there will be "veterans" who can answer them.
1.) I don't know if I'm alone with this, and it might appear like a silly question at first sight, but I'm wondering - is "lowering the time" (number of miilseconds between trials) supposed to make the exercise easier or harder? Is it a bad idea to change this? For me it seems like the 3-second original setting on brainscale can drag things out quite a bit on higher levels, making it more difficult for me to play than if the trials are going on faster.
2.) I have been practicing on
brainscale.net's version of the software with the default settings. Is this vastly different from the "original exercise in the study"?
3.) I have noticed that in the "Dual N Back FAQ" that some of you have quoted, and also in this mailing list, there has been some mentions of the "Brain workshop" software - which I have downloaded, but I'm disappointed to see it does not run on my newest Mac. I don't have easy access to a windows desktop machine. Did any of you figure this out?
4.) The same FAQ mentions the "Jaeggi mode" - someone is playing regularly on D13B level, and in their list of recommendations they recommend you turn this mode on. Since BW doesn't seem to work on the Mac, could someone tell me whether it's possible to configure brainscale's version of it to get it as close to "Jaeggi mode" as possible, and if yes then how?
Thank you all for reading, and I'm looking forward to hearing your responses.
Warm regards,
-Ben
