fook I ate has filled me up and feel then feel like I am full? Will
this work? Can this work?

Robert R. - If one part of the brain is damaged does the whole brain
become damaged?

Tristan - Back to the dream question, If a person dreams that they
will die is it possible to create their own demise? Sometimes when
you dream the dream comes true a few days later.

We'll get to work on these...

Quick thoughts...

What you think can affect how you feel - but it wouldn't produce
calories, so I wouldn't expect thinking to work for long...

You can have brain injuries that are very specific and have absolutely
no affect on other parts of the brain.

Dreams causing changes in the real word outside of your own body??
That's very-very unlikely. There was a challenge a few years ago for,
I think, $25,000, where people from all over the world could send in
dreams that seemed to fortel the future. When the dreams were
objectively evaluated - nobody won the money. Lots of people have
lots of dreams - you tend to only talk about the ones that turn into
great stories - like when you had a dream that then came true. You
can do science on this issue - people have done science on this issue
- the $25,000 prize is safe. Actually - if you know of anyone who can
see ghosts, read palms, do astrology, heal the sick by holding photos
of the sick, find hidden water or bodies, read minds, or tell fortunes
- I can hook them up with an organization that will give them
$1,000,000!!! Why don't these people go and win the $1,000,000 and
silence all the skeptics who say these things can't be done?? You
have to wonder - they could give the money to the poor!! Yet, they
let the skeptics keep the money. Dreams can be related to what you're
worried about and they can be related to very big changes in the
autonomic nervous system. What you're worrying about can be based on
reality and happen. Having huge changes in the autonomic nervous
system if you're prone to stroke or heart attack , those kind of
changes could kill if you are prone to strokes or heart attacks.
Dream happy dreams :)

I think Dr. Waldeck will talk about muscle cramps. Nerves that have
been compressed stop firing action potentials (fall asleep). That can
cause numbness. When the neurons stop being compressed they start
returning to normal and they can generate lots of action potentials as
they 'awaken' that can cause the pins and needles you sometimes feel.

I have a question. why is it that sometimes a bleeding cut doesnt hurt
until you look at it? For example if you got cut by someone's binder
while walking down the hall, but didnt notice it until you got home.
and then it started to hurt.

That's a good one and there are probably several issues at work. We
didn't evolve receptors in our skin that respond well to sharp pieces
of metal. Sharp cuts with glass or blades often don't immediately
trigger a great deal activity in pain receptors. Once the brain
'sees' the injury, it can evaluate what's happened and pain perception
can be triggered. As my advisor used to say "The pain in the sprain
lies mainly in the brain."
