Post here about anything that doesn't have a dedicated thread below.

I've added a new link - the second one under 'Pages' - that contains
links relevant to the first program.

We'll add new links there after each program.

Remember that we love questions - post questions, if you have them!

No - you shouldn't - what link makes you think that - I may be able to
fix it.

My teacher said that I needed one, but we sorted everything out.

You needed to establish a Google account to get into this group - you
could also use that user name to establish a Google Docs account, but
we hadn't planned on requiring you to make any docs. Google is very
safety conscious. It'll make you confirm that you want to have an
account for each of its functions. The one thing you can't have with
a username such as the one you have is establish a Gmail account. You
can't have an e-mail address that, for example is
can...@scranton.edu@gmail.com - the double @s are illegal. So for
Gmail you have to choose a user name that's @-less. That's why I
became cann...@gmail.com - somebody had already snagged
can...@gmail.com by the time I came along.

Okay, we have a few questions for you as well.

What part of the brain is effected when someone has short term memory
loss?

What is the difference between grey matter and white matter?

Does imbalanced seratonin cause people to go into a spiraling
depressionn?

How does a headache occur and what part of the brain is affected?

What causes sleep walking and talkgin?

What part of the brain causes you to dream and day dream?

Why do migraines happen and what part of the brain is affected by it?

What part of the brain is affected when children are born mentally
retarded?

Is it possible to change dreams as in thinking so hard during a dream
that it changes or it is a self-conscious thing?

Thanks,

Wow - lots - I'll take a quick shot again...

OK - the short term memory issue came up during the program and I
blurted out some bad information. I said that the hippocampus was
responsible for short term memory. Oops!! You can have your
hippocampi destroyed, as the famous person HM did, and still have
functional short term memory. The hippocampus is needed to
"consolidate" short term memory into long term memory. That is, it's
needed to create long term memories (of a certain type, but that's too
complicated for right now). I'm going to have to get back to you on
the question at hand.

Gray and white will be covered in the presentation.

Serotonin is involved in lots of things including mood, suicide,
aggression, and pain perception. What serotonin's function is in each
of those is complex. Drugs that boost serotonin activity can help
depression. Drugs that decrease serotonin activity can cause
depression. Depression too is complex.

The brain has no pain receptors - there are pain receptors associated
with blood vessels and the membranes around the brain.

We'll talk about sleep in one of the programs - these phenomena tend
to happen when you are NOT dreaming.

Migraines - same as headaches above.

Mental retardation is usually associated with fairly wide spread
problems in the brain.

Some people report they are able to 'guide' their dreams.

Hope I've helped :)
