It's been a while. As you may or may not know, I have been on parental leave for 10 months. I just wanted to let you know that I am back in office. At the moment, I am working really hard on completing the next version of Dotify. I aim to realize some of the most important design goals, make the code easier to understand and improve its status as a standalone application. The new version will make an excellent starting point for anyone interested in Java based braille book production.

Sounds like an interesting project. When it has matured a bit, I would like to
include it in Debian. I wouldn't include it currently, since it seems under
heavy development and debiaan has software always pulled in for two years in
it's stable branch, so it makes apparently not much sense to include it.

What about BrailleUtils. It's in Debian Wheezy and all are happy - at least no
one complained. Now I want to test the printer as promised. Can you give me
resources where I can find out
a) what to prepare and
b) how to print a test page?

Thanks
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

The easiest way to test a printer (6-dot), is to use one of these files:
http://files.pef-format.org/specifications/pef-2008-1/examples/butterfly.pef
http://files.pef-format.org/specifications/pef-2008-1/examples/6-dot-chart.pef

Using these files, you can verify that all braille cells are correct. However, you cannot verify page/volume handling using these files.

To emboss using Braille utils, you would type the following:

java -jar brailleUtils-ui.jar emboss path_to_file

(answer the prompts according to your setup)

Best,
Joel
