Hello everyone,
I am Miso Kwak, who joined the list recently, so I would like to
introduce myself.
I am currently a junior in high school.
I am originally from South Korea. It's my 5th year in the US.
I have participated in Braille Challenge twice(just regional ones).
As a high school junior, I am obsessed with my grades and college
matters.
I am really glad that this group was created, because I often have
questions that can be answered by only blind students who already have
experienced things, in terms of academics and college matters.
I look forward to get to know and talk to everyone.
Thanks.
Miso Kwak

Hi Miso,

Great to have you on the list. I'm Korean-American (I was born and raised here), and participated in the Braille Challenge in 2000 (before it was even a national event, yeah I'm that old) and 2001-2003. Feel free to ask all your questions. I know that there are some great brains to be picked and resources that you'll undoubtedly find by using this list.

Sincerely,
Tiffany Kim

Thank you for your welcoming messages.
I am involved in marching band. I am a flutist.
I have a friend who guides me while I am marching.
When marching band is off season, I am involved in Kids to Kids club.
It's a club that goes down to local elementary school and reads books
to kids.
I am looking into either education or music education for my college
major, so I enjoy both activities.

Tiffany, Korean Pride!!! haha
I know some Korean blind friends, but it's always good to know more
people.
I am a big Facebook user. I use this email address, so if anyone would
like, feel free to add me.
Miso

Hey Miso --I'm so jealous that you were in marching band! I was in
choir, but always wanted to do band as well.
The reading club you're in sounds great, too. And education is a great
option for a college major. I want to teach high school English
myself. Do you read Braille music, or do you learn by ear? Just
wondering, since you're considering music education as an additional
career choice.
Take care!

Best,
Caitlin

Hi Miso,

Wow, marching band? How exciting! I played the piano and saxophone (stopped saxophone because I couldn't sing and play at the same time, haha!), the piano was too bulky (no marching allowed!), so now I just play the guitar. I'm trying to learn some songs from Bill Brown's Music By Ear site. Since Christmas is coming, I'm tackling Oh Holy Night.

The Kids to Kids Club sounds like lots of fun. I love reading aloud but don't remember such a club being offered when I was in high school. It's great to hear about all those extracurricular activities.

Music is a great major. I took many music classes while I was at UCSB, but I was more interested in the ethnomusicology than the theory and playing. I found the people in the music department to be very nice and helpful. I hope that whichever college you attend will also give you that rewarding experience.

And of course, Korean pride! Daehanminguk, lol!

Sincerely,
Tiffany Kim
