Great, in this case I feel that we can create a long term mutually profitable relationship. Lets work towards getting it going. We are committed to improving our quality with every lot of books to become the highest quality notebook maker in the world eventually. We are not yet there but we will get there soon. Some key features are that our books are hand bound with thick thread. We are adding new features that the books that you bought (as it was an older lot)  do not have but will be very valuable,  like 3 leaf binding (Sewing fewer pages together to make the book more hardy), pasting cloth on the spine in a way that makes the book very hardy, doing ink bleed tests, improving the quality of the paper and glue,  among many other things. Most American and European brands are not positioned to hand bind and do these things which gives us room to make top end world class notebooks of superior quality when compared with Moleskine and other brands. 

 

For this case I would like to proceed like this:

We can do the above, however from the time you bought the prices have gone up. However we will give you the best rates possible to get our partnership going.

This sounds like a good plan. ALso we do not have any distributors in Europe at this time and we can work with you. First thing is to find out freight costs.  Just to get an idea, send Rinku to the Lodhi Road post office to find out speedpost rates by airmail i.e. cost per weight,  with the packets going by book-post i.e. open.

Without this basic homework we cant start talking prices.  There is such a thing as quoting FOB (frieght on board) or Freight to Pay.  Let's talk to any cargo/courier company. Dimps could handle this

Having sent a bunch of emails out to a lot of people, I suggest that now you make a list of people you have sent emails to (You can do this in Asana) and start calling them, you can also track the result of the phone calls and schedule the next interaction on Asana. The phone calls will be key. Our strategy should be to be moving on an upward curve of sales, so that sales are increasing every month. This is possible with being very organized with leads on asana. If you dont know how to do this just send me a list and I will do it on asana or we can assign you an intern who can help you with organizing the leads.

Now it is my turn to apologise for the delay in replying to your mail of June 7.

Melvin, I am not clear if you would like to a) keep a stock of Brahma notebooks at William Penn stores on an outright purchase basis, or b) buy notebooks from us for promotional purposes i.e. as corporate give-aways as an accompaniment to the sale of your pens?  Perhaps you would then like to order limited editions of co-branded Brahma Books.

It is more logical to work out the margins once we know the scope of your interest. Margins also would take into account the cost of couriering the notebooks to various locations.  Are you thinking of an all India basis or just your store - in Bengaloru? Your margins could be better if a) freight of these notebooks is taken care of by your Delhi office and b) the numbers involved.

Please let me have your thoughts in detail.  Brahma Books would be very happy to work with William Penn on a long term basis.  Because of our high quality paper, hand-stitching and high quality glue, the cost of production of these books is relatively high, we do have to work with restricted margins for our stockists.

In early May Brahma Books had sent notebook/sketchbook samples to be seen by you and Mrs. Lal.  You had said that because you were busy with the close of the financial year, we could discuss this in early June.

I am writing this reminder early so that you see it on your return on the 22nd June!  I do hope that we can tie up this matter during the last week of June so that your all your stores have a "rocket" starting 1st July 2013.  We will be happy to stock these completely (they take approx. 70 books) on consignment, and bill Good Earth for the notebooks that have sold, once every two weeks, at which time we will also replenish the "rockets".
