Participants in the EO gain invaluable benefits such as enhanced economic and financial literacy, development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and exposure to real-world economic scenarios. Competing in the EO allows students to engage with leading economists, entrepreneurs, and academics, fostering intellectual growth and curiosity. Additionally, it offers opportunities for networking, recognition, and the potential to become future leaders in economics.

The EO is structured into several stages to foster healthy competition and identify talented students. It starts with the School Round, followed by the Regional Round, the National Round, and culminates in the International Round. Each stage offers unique challenges and learning opportunities, with the International Round featuring case studies, presentations, and collaborative projects in a global setting.

Schools and teachers play a crucial role in the EO by encouraging student participation and facilitating the initial stages of the competition. They can register their schools for the Olympiad, integrate its curriculum into their teaching, and use EO resources to enhance economic education. National Partners are available in many countries to assist schools with the participation process, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for both teachers and students. To find out more about how to bring the EO to your school you can fill out this form.

In the early years of my secondary school, I avoided participating in any competition or olympiad because I felt competitions distract you from your school work. In my secondary school, students that took part in competitions hardly attend normal school academic classes because the school management had special training for olympiad competitions (in economics, mathematics, science etc) and that training usually did not cover all school subjects.

I also had to review various Microsoft PowerPoint presentations with my team members. Of course, the Olympiad examinations involved a lot of mathematics, ranging from easy to much more complex. There were challenges with internet connectivity during the final rounds of the Olympiad and this greatly affected my final scores. I came first in my country, Nigeria, and I was awarded a trophy and a gold medal. How I would have loved to clinch the gold medal at the international level! Nevertheless, I was really elated to have been awarded a scholarship grant by HSE University for participating up to the final round.

In the proceeding weeks, I had to do my registration, compulsory medical test and fingerprinting for foreigners, which was a very tedious process because I was underage. I was referred to various hospitals and agencies before I was able to complete my fingerprinting and other requirements. I am most thankful to Oxana Budjko and Elena Andrianova for their help with the compulsory procedures I had to undergo.

I am currently registered for five subjects: Russian as a foreign language, Mathematics, Scientific Language (a subject to teach you basic terms you need for other subjects, for example how to say mathematical equations in Russian), Social Studies and History

The International Economics Olympiad (IEO) is an annual competition in economics organized for students at secondary school level. It is intended to stimulate the activities of students interested in economics, business, and finance by way of creative problem solving. The IEO competitions help to facilitate cordial relations between young adults of different nationalities; they encourage cooperation and international understanding.

Moscow is one of the world largest cities, a modern metropolis, the capital and ancient center of the Russian state with a history going back many centuries. It is the city, which everyone should visit.

It`s the 4th day of the IEO and the Force is with us like never! Two rounds are ahead now, the third one takes place tomorrow. During the Olympiad we have been collecting feedback about the tasks from our contestants. Opinions were different, sometimes even ambiguous, but we want to share all of them.

Andy Wei stumbled into economics by chance when he took the Grade 11 elective course at his school in Markham, Ont., last year. He got hooked, and when he could find no related extracurricular activities, he created a national competition to help pursue his passion.

The 17-year-old says he is puzzled that the study of the production, consumption and transfer of wealth is not taught to all young people and is determined to make the subject more accessible and useful to all.

A country needs to run a national competition in order to funnel its top contestants to the global event, hosted virtually by Latvia this year. So Wei got it up and running last year and joined four other Canadians at the 2020 international version, where they all brought home medals. (Canada came sixth out of around 30 countries.)

Wei and two other high schoolers are now working on outreach, web design, registration and fundraising for the next Canadian Economics Olympiad, due to take place on June 19, and are bolstered by an eight-member committee of professors and university students who make and mark the contest.

This year's competition will be an open-book test consisting of 20 multiple-choice and 20 short answer questions that participants will have an 11-hour window to complete, Wei said, adding that a new addition to their contest committee is crafting questions looking at the intersection between the environment and economics.

Wei said that after arguing in favour of a wealth tax at a debate, he joined Resource Movement, a group of young people with wealth or class privilege working toward the redistribution of wealth, land and power. He is also involved with the Toronto Community Benefits Network, which aims to ensure historically disadvantaged communities benefit from urban development.

The republican stage of the Olympiad comprised two parts: a written examination and oral presentation. The written part, designed by the Olympiad international partners in accordance with established standards, included essay writing, multiple-choice questions, computational problems, and graph analysis. The submissions were reviewed by a distinguished jury of representatives from Yerevan State University, Russian-Armenian University, State University of Economics of Armenia, AUA, CBA, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Armenia, and the Caucasian Research Resources Center to assess participant submissions. The students were evaluated in their knowledge of economics, logical reasoning, and creative thinking. CBE members engaged in the jury included the Dean, Dr. Vache Gabrielyan, Master of Science in Economics Program Chair Dr. Gurgen Aslanyan, B.A. in Business Program Chair Dr. Gayane Barseghsyan, and CBE Assistant Professors Dr. Lena Seissian and Dr. Hayk Kamalyan.
