Alrighty! Sounds like a party. :-) We've got Brian, Andrew, hopefully
Jon, and yours truly in for the whole shebang, and Miki in for a
subset. For aid & a quick hug from a loved one bewildered by our
insanity, Ann and someone will be at the Hiker's Hut in Sam MacDonald,
Miki has offered assistance, Andrew mentioned a family member, and Andy
has graciously offered his help.
How's this for a notion: Andy, would you be willing to station yourself
at the top of Jamison Grade where it meets Empire Grade on Sunday
morning? That's a big climb right at the end, and we may get whiny.
Don't let anyone in your car, though! ;-)
Miki, one idea for a subset of the run along with some aid help would be
to hang out with Ann in Sam MacDonald Saturday night, and then run
through into Big Basin Sunday morning. One of the wonderful "loved
ones" might be up for picking you up there, or you could run to Andy, or
all the way into Santa Cruz, depending on the distance you'd enjoy.
Please chat with Ann directly if you like the idea of running to or from
Sam MacDonald and sharing the Hiker's Hut with her.
Saturday night will be nearly moonless, so if we get some clear weather
the stars will be magnificent! The current weather forecast makes this
sound not too likely, although early signs show a break in the rain for
our run:
I'll look forward to seeing any of you who're coming to the Rodeo Beach
run tomorrow morning, and the rest of y'all next Saturday! Please don't
forget those high-resolution topo maps and detailed run description from
the website.
Viva el burrito!

PS: Brian and gang, anyone interested in GPS waypoints, please give me
more of a picture of what you'd like. I can give a few
latitude/longitude points along the course for you to punch in, or a
complete GPS track to download, or whatever the software will spit out.
Speak upon me, and ye shall have data...
It's only a training run we're sharing, so of course there's always room
for one more!
I must say though, I've been strongly discouraging folks from doing this
as their first 100. We'll be in remote places with spotty cell service
(some areas with none whatsoever), and we're likely be to spread hours
apart from each other. There are no course markings, no aid stations
(well, okay, there'll be Ann at mile 57), and we aren't even supposed to
be on those trails at night. ;-) Oh, and it may be rainy, windy, and
very cold. Lions, tigers and bears, oh my!
Of course, we're all running as individuals (this isn't an organized
event), so some healthy coordination with your father-in-law might make
it work for you. Just be ready to be pretty self-sufficient out there...
We'll all be meeting at the start together, but we may not see each
other at the finish. I'm gonna have to boogie home due to other
commitments.
All that said, it's an incredible challenge, and we'll find ourselves on
some trails we may not have even known existed. That area of the
Peninsula is truly amazing to behold. If the clouds part for us, the
stars on this moonless night will be *amazing*.
Seeya at Java Beach Saturday morning if I haven't succeeded in
discouraging you,

PS: Regardless of how this goes, try an organized 100 too. They can be
really social! And there's aid & support! :-)
What might your paces be, Brian & Andrew & any others (Bobby?)? Keep in
mind that self-supported runs take significantly longer, since "aid
stations" are things like Safeway & taco joints & convenience stores,
and we've gotta schlep everything ourselves...
Gracias muy mucho!!!
