Hey runners, just one more quick note: If you have a GPS, I'd suggest
bringing it along on this run. While I've tried to make the detailed
run instructions detailed enough to run without electronic assistance, I
must admit that I have a mapping GPS with topo maps in it that I'll
carry to avoid getting lost. It's a big region back there on the west
side of Skyline, and cell service is often spotty or nonexistent. We
might get pretty spread out along the route. A GPS can help to keep the
"fun factor" elevated through the night. :-)

Hey Fred,
Thanks for the advice.  What kind of GPS handheld do you use?  Anyone else out there have a good handheld they recomend?  Does the battery last through the night?  Thanks, I was thinking about getting one (either watch or handheld but wanted some input first)
Happy Thanksgiving,
Brian

Howdy Brian,

I've had a Garmin GPSMap 76CSx for a few years now, and really like it.  However, I suspect there may be smaller ones available now...  It runs on AA batteries, and does fine on the rechargeables I use with my light, so I just carry spare AAs for both.  It seems to go about 20 hours on a pair of AAs.  I added the street maps and topo maps along with a bigger memory card, all of which together make it an expensive proposition for a single event.  Even a cheapo $49 special along with some good printed topo maps should be plenty to get us un-lost.

We're all on our own in this run, as it's not an official event (i.e. we get what we pay for!), so let's do whatever we need to get ourselves to the burrito of destiny!

Hope this helps,

Thanks Fred, I can't wait to get to the burrito...the big question is what kind?

Personally, I'm probably more of a Cajun Blackened Snapper kinda guy, but others may prefer the Sun-Dried Tomato Italiano:

In my humble opinion, this menu is worth running 100 miles for.  :-)

Seeya 3 weeks from Saturday morning!
