Hey there Burrito Eaters,

Just to give us all a little extra motivation to cruise through the
night on Saturday, December 27th, I'm in the process of booking the
Sierra Club Hiker's Hut in Sam MacDonald Park:

http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/hikers_hut.asp

I'm booking it for two people, which would likely include Ann (my
sweetie) and one other person, to be determined later. If more of our
sweeties would like to enjoy this hut, we'll need to give the Sierra
Club a few more schemoleons. Might be a good plan -- looks like quite a
nifty place to spend the night. :-)

FYI, cabins in Big Basin are $65/night, with a 2-night minimum, plus
$7.50 reservation fee, for a total of $137.50. That starts to sound
like real money, so I'm tempted to just book a plain ol' car campsite
there. If it rains, this decision may not be a popular one. Anyone
have suggestions on this?

Looking forward to the urban food log in Santa Cruz,

- Fred

Hey Fred,
Not sure about the camp site, mife wife is a car sleeper.  But I was wondering since she wants to "crew" what some good intersections or points to meet at would be.
I am still trying to decide what kind of burrito I want.
Thanks,
brian

Yo Brian,

Last year, Ann met me with the car at the parking area for Purisima Creek, which was a perfect spot due to the day/night transition, decent distance past Half Moon Bay, and decent distance to next water in Sam MacDonald.  That was fantastic, except for the fact that we got a warning on the car from Mister Ranger because the park officially closes 1/2 hour after sunset.  Another good option would be the parking lot for Alice's Restaurant at Hwy. 84 & Skyline.

Later in the run, Big Basin will be good (we've gotta choose a campsite there -- no "day use" at night), as would Boulder Creek or up where Jamison Grade meets Empire Grade.

Keep in mind that cell coverage is very spotty in many of these areas.  There are pay phones in Sam MacDonald and Big Basin.

cool, thanks for the info Fred.  How does the campsite thing work.  Do I pay you for our part or do I have to call and make a reservation?

Hi Brian,

I'll book a campsite in Big Basin shortly (I'm traveling right now as I type). I'll be happy to pick up the tab; ask your crew to feed me a candy bar or something. :-)
