Hey all,
I'd like to run at least some of the course with at least some of you
guys.

Fred, it would be cool if you could come up with a list of convenient
access points - for example on the jpg hosted on run100s it looks like
you're going to be crossing Skyline at 84 (Woodside road) which is a
pretty convenient place for a quasi-aidstation - given the nice little
store.

Are there any other places at or around the halfway mark where I could
be dropped off? (Big Basin is a bit of a drive just to deposit a
runner)

Also - how is everybody planning on getting back to where ever you
started from once you've had your burrito in Santa Cruz? Is there a
bus going to Sily Valley? I haven't googled to diligently but it sure
isn't obvious...

Cheers,
Harry

Yo Harry,

Fantabulous! There are many convenient access points for much of the run,
and then things get a little more remote... There's SF, Pacifica, Half
Moon Bay, and then the top of Purisima Creek along Skyline, then Huddart,
Wunderlich, Alice's Restaurant (where 84 meets Skyline, as you mention),
and then the rest of the run is on the other side of Skyline. There's La
Honda, Sam MacDonald Park, Pescadero Creek, and then the next
car-accessible spot is Big Basin. From there it all stays pretty easily
accessed between Big Basin and Santa Cruz.

In the detailed description of the run, I included some info on how to
return from the finish. The Amtrak Highway 17 Express bus goes from
downtown Santa Cruz quickly and directly to the downtown San Jose Caltrain
station. It's easy to hop on the Caltrain back to SF, and then the N Judah
streetcar is across the street from the SF Caltrain station -- the end of
the N Judah line is where Java Beach is (our starting point).

I did this last year, but only went home to South San Francisco. I conked
out and slept on the Highway 17 Express bus, and then broke out my cell
phone and texted & emailed folks during the Caltrain ride with a cold beer
(yes, you can have an open container on Caltrain). It was a fine way to
get home. :-)

I'm out of town right now, but will provide some far more detailed (i.e.
HUGE) topo maps of the run after I get home later this week.

Hope this helps,

- Fred

PS: I think I may be free on Sunday, if you'd like to go check out some of
the course together!
