USB install of Linux/Blocos

Here is another option for installing and using Blocos. Yesterday I
wanted to show off the Blocos programming environment and the Babuinobot
at the Portland Dorkbot meeting, but my Windows Vista laptop had
problems with the executable install as well as trying to load all of
the software packages manually. But I was able to get Blocos running on
it by using a USB thumbdrive.

Ubuntu linux distributes a "live CD" that allows you to either install
the software on a computer or just run linux from the CD so that you can
try out the software before installing. I downloaded the ISO image of
the disk and copied it to a 4GB USB thumbdrive(there are lots of
instructions on how to do this available online). Then I restarted my
laptop using the USB drive as the boot device(you may have to change
bios settings to enable this). Choose the language you want to use and
then select "Try Ubuntu without any changes to your computer". I then
installed all of the python packages, Subversion, and then downloaded
the Blocos packages from the repository. Now I'm able to boot just
about any PC from the thumbdrive and run Blocos and program through the
USB port(the computer must have 2 available ports). The performance is
sluggish, since you are running the software from a thumbdrive, but it
does work.

Everyone at the Dorkbot meeting was impressed with the Blocos software
and liked that you can download it into an Arduino chip using the
Babuino firmware.

I think the software works on any Linux environments, even at live cd's. Now we will implement the stack of variables. This variables will be not volatile, so if you turn off the board they will not be erased.
And this will be for Babuino. The instructions like Setdp, ResetDp and so on.
