Update from the Ashley / Rakahuri Rivercare Group
below.
Hi All
Book launch. This went very well indeed, with
around 100 people present, in the perfect venue (DOC building on River Road) on
a lovely evening. So we had the short talks outside gathered around the
nibbles and drinks table, followed by book purchases and signings as those
present looked at the displays and Lynley Cook's excellent sequence of
slides. Very many thanks to DOC for being the host, Sarah Ensor for
her excellent organisation, and of course, to Jane Buxton and Jenny Cooper for
writing and illustrating the book respectively. We sold plenty, but there
are still a number left. If you want to purchase one, do so at the DOC
office - sales from that venue result in a greater amount going to the
ARRG.
Update. A few of us were down on the river
this weekend, setting traps and looking out for birds. There were
considerably less around than last weekend (no wrybills), but such variation is
par for the course this early in the season. As noted last time, one
surprise is the almost complete absence of pied stilts - I have yet to see one
down there this season. If you are interested in a riverbed wander in the
near future, pencil in Saturday, Oct 2, the day for our October survey.
More details about that later.
Regards
Nick L.
