I solved this problem by updating my pip to the latest version:

pip install --upgrade pip

then

python -m pip install bpython

upon successful installation, you get a message regarding where the bpython is installed. You need to add this path to your shell.

Then it works.

In this case, the bpython binary tries to execture bpython version 0.17.1, bpython version 0.20.1 is found. Do you have some old version still installed?
