Faridabad, Haryana, August 30, 2015 /India PRwire/ -- More than 300 residents of Pranayam and other societies in Greater Faridabad organized a mass protest against builder Puri Constructions Ltd. (PCL) today. The protest was organized by the Pranayam Residents Welfare Association (PRWA) to highlight the death of a senior citizen due to the negligence of the builder, Puri Constructions Ltd., in the Pranayam Society, on 23rd August, 2015. The participants consisted of senior citizens, women, children, officials of Greater Faridabad Welfare Association and members of Pranayam Residents Welfare Association (PRWA). It was also attended by residents from many other societies such as VIP Floors, Era Redwood, SRS Residency, Park Grandeura, SRS Royal Hills, Piyush Heights amongst several others in Greater Faridabad area who joined in to show their solidarity.
The protestors demanded that FIR be registered against Puri Constructions Ltd. (PCL) because of criminal negligence which has resulted in the death of the senior citizen because the builder did not follow standard building norms. They also demanded that the police administration, HUDA and other government agencies should take note of the gross violation of safety norms in Pranayam society and take immediate action. These issues, if unaddressed, will result in more accidents in the future.
The protest rally began in BPTP Bridge in Greater Faridabad at around 10.30 am and ended in Anand Villas, a residential project of Puri Constructions Ltd., with a clear understanding on the future course of action.
On 23rd August at about 8.15 pm, when Mr. Nand Lal Mundhra went to check his electrical meter, he fell through a big opening left inside the electrical shaft from the 8th floor and landed in the second basement where he died instantly. Puri Constructions was fully aware of these construction flaws that violated safety norms but has so far ignored them, despite several reminders by residents.
The PRWA approached the police authorities including the commissioner of Police, Faridabad, but have been unable to get an FIR registered till date.
Amidst slogans of "Puri Constructions - Killer Builder," "We want Justice," "Say No to Puri Constructions," "Register FIR against Culprits," the protestors highlight the extreme apathy and high-handedness of the builder, Puri Constructions, and the administration which has so far turned a blind eye to the plight of residents in the Greater Faridabad area. They demanded that the government should step in and investigate such gross violation of safety norms in the Pranayam society and compel Puri Constructions to resolve all safety-related issues in a time-bound manner.
The PRWA also appealed trade associations, real estate agents, apartment buyers' associations in Delhi-NCR region and NGOs to pressurize the builder Puri Constructions Ltd. to provide adequate safety measures in the Pranayam society so that no such accidents take place in the future. It also wants the builder to provide adequate compensation to the family of the deceased Mr. Nand Lal Mundhra whose family is facing a lot of hardships due to the sudden death of their head of family.
Following are the comments of the officials and residents who participated in today's rally:
Highlighting the issue, President of PRWA, Mr. Yogesh Mann, said, "It is extremely unfortunate that we lost a dear resident due to the negligence of the builder. We demand stringent action against the builder including registration of an FIR. This is a serious violation of safety norms and the culprits should be brought to book."
Secretary, PRWA, Mr. G. S. Bhatia, said: "Puri Constructions has been ignoring our safety concerns for long. Now it's come to a level where we cannot tolerate it any further. The government has to step in now and arrest the culprits."
Mr Nitin Arora, VP, PRWA, said, "If FIR is not registered immediately we will move ahead and organize even larger protests against the builder-authority nexus."
Mr. Manoj Rungta, Collegium member, PRWA, observed, "Many safety-related incidents have taken place in Pranayam society in the past, including a major fire incident and injuries due to lift malfuctioning, but this is the first time that it has resulted in the death of a senior citizen. Puri Constructions is very insensitive and has not given us our rights till date."
Mr. Surender Sharma, Ex-Secretary, PRWA, noted: "There is a bug nexus between builder and regulatory agencies like DTCP, HUDA and Fire dept. Why the officers who had given Occupancy certificate allowed such open cutouts without necessary protection while issuing NOCs?"
Ms. Shweta Prabhakar, Executive Member, PRWA, said: "I demand action against Puri Constructions. All government agencies should step in to ensure safety of residents."
Mr. Madhur Gupta, Treasurer, PRWA observed: "There is a gross violation of safety norms in the Pranayam society. There are issues with the Fire Safety system, lifts, building structure, etc. which should be investigated by government agencies immediately."
Mr. Pramod Minocha (President, SRS Residency) says: "Builders across Greater Faridabad have failed to fulfill the promises they made to residents. The government should step in to rectify all these issues immediately."
Mr. Phogat (President, VIP Floors, a Puri Construction project) says, "Safety of residents in Greater Faridabad is extremely important. If they are not addressed we will have more such accidents in the future. We had a very bad experience with Puri Constructions"
Mr. Pankaj Kesari, an RWA official of Era Redwood noted: "We cannot tolerate this anymore. For more than 3 years residents across all societies in Faridabad have seen that builders are blatantly neglecting safety norms. The state government should step in immediately and address our concerns."
Mr. Tulinder Katoch (President, Piyush Heights) observed: "Why are the builders violating the standards specified in the National Building Code? Why was there a big gap left in the electrical shaft, which is against the norms?"
Many other participants in the rally, including women and senior citizens, highlighted how the infrastructure across Greater Faridabad area has been ignored by the government for a long time. This is leading to a lot of hardships for residents who have paid huge External Development Charges to the Government of Haryana but the government has done very little to provide basic infrastructure in the area.
The rally concluded with the understanding that if the demands raised by the protestors are not met and FIR is not lodged then more such mass protests will be organized in the future.
