Hi, everyone! Below you will find a short summary of the meeting from May 27th and links to chat and transcript logs.

BPS Funding Update Summary (for detailed summary please review the recording)

David Bloom, CFO of Boston Public Schools, shared updates on the district’s shift from Weighted Student Funding to a new model focused on equity, particularly for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. While core federal funding remains stable, specialized grants face potential cuts. A finalized plan is expected by mid-November to align with school budget planning.

Bloom also addressed the possible loss of IDEA funding, noting the district may need to use general funds, limiting new investments. A $5 million reserve and collaborative data review processes are in place to meet emerging needs.

He emphasized that the new system will support—not drive—academic redesigns and will be reviewed in 2031. Parents were encouraged to stay engaged and provide feedback ahead of the budget season.

The group discussed improving Title I compliance, reducing last-minute spending, and creating standardized tools for clearer budget reporting. The next CPC meeting and special election will be held on June 17 at La Sala (see flyer for details).
