Book Club -  December 2: Grendel by John Gardner
The next meeting of the Bloomfield Public Library Book Club will be on Monday, December 2nd from 6:45 until 7:45 PM in the Quiet Study Room.  The topic of discussion will be Grendel by John Gardner.  Everyone knows the story of Beowulf.  Written over a thousand years ago, this epic poem is considered one of the first important works of Anglo-Saxon literature. It tells the story of a hero, Beowulf, who defeats an evil l monster named Grendel.  Translated many times and analyzed by countless college students, it has been  the source of computer games,  an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager, ” and films like  “The Thirteenth Warrior” and “Outlander.”  In Grendel, John Gardner retells the story from the point of view of the monster!  Was Beowulf really a hero or a self-important brute?  Was Grendel a victim of unjust persecution?  Is he also just a bit of a whiner?  These questions and more will be answered in Gardner’s humorous and earthy novel.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Job Support Group meets at 6:30pm on Wednesdays

We will be closed on December 25 for Christmas
and will be closing at 3pm on December 24 and December 31.
