May 10 @ 1pm - Pet Reiki - in the library theatre
Reiki Master & author, Shirl Knobloch will talk about how Reiki is used to help animals, treating those with cancer, those with emotional issues, etc. She’ll discuss the color therapy, and the energy chakras of animals and what illnesses or issues correspond. And share information on her book and her work as an animal communicator. If pets are extremely well behaved, licensed & current on shots, they are welcome too!
May 21 @ 6:30pm - "Think better, Win More!: How Sport Psychology Can Make You a Champion."
Mike Tully, co-author of "Think Better, Win More!: How Sport Psychology Can Make You a Champion," has spent four decades studying success. As an international sports writer, he covered four Olympics Games, including the 1980 Miracle on Ice. He's spent 25 years as a coach, serving in the NCAA and in high schools. Now he's a blogger, author and speaker. Coach Tully has spoken to audiences in 21 states plus Puerto Rico on how to get the most out of practice time. He's also co-author of "Ten Things Great Coaches Know" and "Thank God You're Lazy!" and author of "The Improvement Factor."

May 15, 2014 – CAPTAIN PHILLIPS
Based on the true story of the 2008 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. It was the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. The film focuses on the vessel’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks) and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. Nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Abdi) - 2013 – Color – 134 minutes – PG-13.
May 19, 2014 – ALL IS LOST
Robert Redford delivers one of the finest performances of his career in this thrilling, highly acclaimed film about one man’s battle for survival at sea. Redford is the only cast member, and the film has almost no dialogue. He is the winner of the New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Actor – 2013 – Color – 106 minutes – PG-13.

If Shuyu refuses to release her husband, Lin and Manna must wait eighteen years to consummate their love. This remarkable novel, set during the Cultural Revolution in China, won the National Book Award in 1999. Born in China, Ha Jin served in the Red Army as a young man. An award winning poet and author of novels and short stories, he is now a professor at Boston University and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Scientists.

Financial Book Club and Workshops – Tuesdays at 6 PM – beginners welcome.
The club time will start at 6pm instead of 5:30pm and, the book of the month reading is "Multiple Streams of Income," by Robert Allen. We have a new member, Ramona Rice-looking forward to her participation!
Job Hunting Support Group – Job hunting support group – Wednesdays at 6:30 PM
Free informal group of job hunters who gather to share ideas on job search techniques. Come with your own ideas to share and perhaps learn something new. There is no leader, and job postings will not be listed for you (although the library does have resume books, newspaper want ads, and internet access.
Knitting Club – Fridays at 11:00 AM
A casual group a crafters who share their enjoyment and latest projects. No teachers. Come and make new friends.
Genealogy – 3rd Saturday of every month – 2:00 PM
Games – play chess, checkers, Go, Scrabble or whatever, whenever! Bring a friend or meet someone new. Ask at the Reference Desk if you would like to borrow a game board or puzzle.
Computer Classes – one-on-one tutoring in computer basics, email, online searching, Microsoft Office., etc. – sign up for a one-hour session - Monday mornings, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and Friday afternoons, 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Due to limited availability, a current Bloomfield Public Library card is required!
Board Meetings
The Bloomfield Public Library Board of Trustees meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 PM. Meetings are open to the public.
