2012 SHPF Paragliding Gathering and Parachute Repack

Hey Folks,

Is already that time of the year! winter is upon us, and we need a free
flying event to look forward to. The Scottish Hang Gliding and Paragliding
Federation (SHPF) with the assistance of Sport Scotland is delighted to
announce the 2012 SHPF Paragliding Gathering and Parachute Repack.

The venue is the super tested and weather proof Edinburgh International
Climbing Arena (EICA) at Ratho (Edinburgh), a place to enjoy a day out with
your family and/or friends. For directions

The dates.. Saturday 4th February 2012 from 9:00AM to 19:00 PM.

The building provides the cream of indoor climbing walls which includes a
100m long and a four storey high zipline where pilots can take a breath
taking jump in order to test their reserve parachutes and reserve deployment
skills over and over again in a controlled environment.

This event will provide you with the vital and very much necessary parachute
deployment and parachute repack practice. Many pilots have already contacted
SHPF to thank them for the good practice accrued during the event following
a successful parachute deployment in a real life emergency.

In addition to a new more comfortable and double sized room for repacking
your parachutes, there will be the assistance of experienced fellow pilots
to repack your ³chutes². There will be also Free Flying workshops during the
day at no additional cost for all registered participants. We want you to
have a full day of polishing old and new skills, and get current, safe and
ready for the new season. Some of these workshops will be:

* XC Clinic and Flying Tecnique by Triantophylos Gkikopoulos Advance XC
Serial Team member.
* Speed Flying, the ABC, flying tecnique and courses by CFI Gordie Olliver
(BHPA's first and only Speed Flying Instructor)
* 2 Line Paragliders Design and Handling by Brendan Reid ( 2011 British
Open Series, Open class best new comer)

Last but not least, arguably best event of the day, 2011 X-Alps the toughest
adventure race in the world. GB TEAM 1 for the 2011 X-Alps composed by Steve
Nash and Richard Bungay will be providing us with an unforgettable
presentation on their participation of the Red Bull X-Alps this year. Their
talk counts with exclusive footage, conversations and images. This
presentation is a unique opportunity to share with the protagonist the most
clear and fascinating insight of the race.

Steve and Richard will also bring along most of their original ultra light
custom built gear for the race in order for you to see and touch some of the
special material necessary to cover the whole length of the Alps, from end
to end by foot or paragliding.

Needless to say how special is the participation of Richard Bungay in this
presentation, a voice rarely heard, the voice of the ground crew and the
possibility for us to learn of the multiple tasks he had to full fill to
perfection for the overall benefit of Team GB.

More information will be coming in following weeks in the mean time..get the
date marked on your calendar, get registered and join for a great day!.
