Gold Bars Inside Upright Train Car

Gold Bars are a quick way to earn money in Red Dead Redemption 2. Each gold bar is worth $500, which is a nice chunk of change in the wild west. Since they are so valuable, they are very rare, as you might expect. This guide will show you where to find RDR2's gold bar locations and find out where you can sell them.

First things first, you must complete The Spines of America mission if you want to sell gold bars. This mission unlocks your first fence, the only vendor who will buy valuables like gold bars. Visit the Fence Locations and Unlock Guide to see how and where you can unlock new fence vendors.

One there, visit this sheriff's building and take an immediate left and walk around the desk. It probably served as a sort of reception desk at one point. Inside the desk is a lock box with a Special Horse Stimulant Pamphlet, along with a gold bar.

Climb up to the top of the cliff that the train car is leaning into. You can do this by going around to the right of the train car, climbing up the hill, going underneath the railroad tracks, and circling to the left. Walk toward the edge and you will spot a small path downward on the left. Crouch and go down the slope.

Staying crouched, walk to the right under the overhang. On the other side of the overhang, you will need to slide down to the lip below. Be careful here, or your character may go tumbling down the cliff side. Walk to the end of the path and climb up the rock on the right.

Once on top of the rock, follow the path carefully around. Soon you will hop up onto a tiny lip. Use this lip to mark a starting point to run. Just ahead is a gap that you will need to sprint to jump across. Run toward the gap and press square/X to jump. Slide down the wall to reach the landing below.

When you land, you just need to make a final short run and hop into the train car itself. Down at the bottom are the two gold bars. Additionally, there is another train car painted yellow with other goodies inside it too that is on the ground, if you care to loot it as well.

This gold bar is only available after you've reached Chapter 4. Head down to Lemoyne's Braithwaite Manor south of Rhodes. Ride toward the main building on the property to begin the hunt for the gold bar.

To find the derailed train in Red Dead Redemption 2, wander across the bridge at Granite Pass. Then, take a peek over the edge and you'll see a derailed train, like something out of Back to the Future: Part Three.

In one of the carriages, you'll find a chest that has a coin bag, some cash and a large bag of jewelry you can sell. There's also a vertical carriage with some gold bars and pirate rum in it, but you'll need to do a bit of climbing to get there.

To get to this carriage, you'll need to follow a path on the cliff to the left. Once you've jumped over some chassis, take a look at the left of the cliff wall and you'll see an edge you can almost reach.

Once you're up on this ledge, turn to the right and you'll see another ledge within jumping distance. Sprint and jump to the other ledge, and you should be able to see the open carriage to your right. You'll need to sprint and jump again to land inside the carriage and not ricochet off the edge four times as I did.

Once inside the vertical carriage, jump to the bottom to find the two gold bars, some ammo and some pirate rum. You can then sell the gold bars you've found, which is one way to make money fast in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Sometimes players can find maps to these treasures, but other times they just have to find them through some good old fashioned exploration. One treasure players can find without following a map is on a derailed train south of Cotorra Springs.

The exact location of the derailed train in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be seen on the map below. Upon arrival, players can loot the immediately accessible train cars for some valuable items, including cash and jewelry. However, the real treasure lies in a vertical car accessible via the nearby cliff.

Climb up to where the vertical train car is, and then follow the gravel path to the right of it to get to the higher cliff. Get a running start and jump over the gap to reach the ledge near the derailed train car's opening. Hop into the opening and go to the bottom of the car to find two gold bars and some booze.

After collecting the two gold bars, Red Dead Redemption 2 players will want to sell them for cash, with gold bars going for $500 a pop. However, there are other methods to make money in the game as well, like completing story missions, robbing banks, and more. Whatever players choose to do, it never hurts to have extra spending money in the Wild West.

Because they are so valuable, they are both hard to find and sometimes locked behind in-game progression. Although, there are a handful of gold bars you can find right away in places you wouldn't have thought of looking into otherwise. Throughout the game, you will likely come across a treasure map that leads to another map, that leads to another map, and eventually to either a gold bar and a trinket or even six gold bars at once. These are the best sources for gold bars and other types of treasure but come with a great deal of effort.

Not all treasure maps are available right away, like the Elemental Trail, which can only be reached after chapter six. However, the Jack Hall Gang treasure and The Poisonous Trail can be started right away, as long as you don't mind the cold.

In the rubble to the east of Catherine's burned body, you can uncover the chest and retrieve the gold bar. If you loot Catherine's body, you can also get her brooch. However, this loot is unfortunately much smaller than the legend of the missing Braithwaite gold.

This option is available at the start of chapter two. You can head to an old train wreck at the bottom of a ravine just east of Granite Pass and southwest of Cotorra Springs. You will see multiple train cars on their sides and backs and one car nearly upright against the cliffside.

In the open train car lying on its side, you can find jewelry and some cash, but to get to the gold, you have to scale the cliff above the upright car and drop inside. At the bottom, you can pick up two gold bars, aged pirate rum, and valerian root.

As soon as chapter two begins, you can travel to the ruined town of Limpany and pick up a gold bar. The town is straight north of Flatneck Station on the east side of the Dakota River. Once you arrive, you will notice multiple burned buildings arranged in a loose circle.

Inside the town, look for the Sheriff's Office, which is the southernmost building, and head inside. Go behind the front desk and open the drawer on the right. Inside you will find a single gold bar and a pamphlet for horse stimulant.

After the start of chapter 2, you can head just northeast of Bacchus Station until you come across a crevice within a rocky hill. Inside are seven statues facing a central statue of a harpy figure. There is a cave painting just southwest of Granite Pass at Window Rock that can help you solve the puzzle that unlocks the three gold bars.
