Hello Boxsters,
Winter paid another visit to my neck of the woods with a couple inched of new snow.
The air temps are well below freezing and so the snow and ice are not going anywhere anytime soon.
We are hunkered down with plenty to eat and a working heat pump.
Christmas is just around the corner and shopping time is near!
It is also Monday and time for a new Free Download to excite your senses.
This weeks FD is fairly recent having been released in 1993.
The art from Czeck model maker MPM, for their limited run kit of the Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket.
This was the first 1/72 scale injection molded kit of this plane.
The real XF5F first flew in 1940 and performed well.
It competed with the XF4F and the Navy went with the more conventional design of the Wildcat for production.
The XF5F flew for a few more years before being scrapped.
The USAAF took an interest and Grumman built a similar design aircraft, the XP-50 in 1941.
The XP-50 differed in that it had tricycle gear and a longer fuselage.
A supercharger explosion destroyed it in flight and the design was abandoned.
I selected a dozen images of them for your enjoyment.
All the images are 1280 pixels.
