Lucky number 13 for the month of July, 2026 is here and it is a Monday, too!

Time for a new Free Download for your intellectual development.

This week's FD is a rare beast from the Ideal Toy Corporation.

The art is from the 1960, ITC release of the USS Halibut action model submarine.

This kit was one of several by ITC that featured their cam-omatic action.

When finished the sub could be released into a body of water and it would automatically submerge, surface and launch a Regulus missile.

The kit was only released once and I built one.

My sub build was launched in a local pond and performed perfectly, until the string that kept it in control broke and off it went!

It is likely still at the bottom the that pond.

The sub it was based on was launched in 1959 and actually was armed with the Vought Regulus I missile.

The US Navy was also developing a newer missile, the Polaris sub launched ICBM and the Halibut was reassigned to attack sub duty.

The Halibut served until 1976.

I collected a handful of images of the USS Halibut for your viewing pleasure.
