Hello Boxsters,
It is the last Monday in July, 2025, and time for a new Free Download.
This weeks FD is a recent scan courtesy of Lance in Canada.
It is the Revell boxart that graced their 1957 release, 1/40 scale model of the US Navy's Bendix Talos anti aircraft missile.
The Talos was developed from a program named "Bumblebee" that began shortly after WWII.
The US Navy was in need of a missile that could intercept enemy aircraft.
The Talos, in it's final version, was able to intercept incoming aircraft out to 150 miles at 80,000 feet.
It could reach speeds approaching Mach 3 on final intercept.
The first launches occurred in the early 1950s under extreme secrecy.
The Talos system used two tracking antennas and was a very large missile.
Only an handful of US Navy ships could accommodate the Talos system.
The Talos served from 1958 until 1979.
Atlantis has announced the release of this kit sometime in 2025.
