The first bombers over Berlin, if I recall correctly.  But it makes me wonder, how did the country of my ancestors, home of Monet Manet, Renior, statues of Liberty and Eiffel towers, Nieuport 17,  and other icons of beauty and aesthetics end up designing such ugly aircraft has this one, and much of the French stable between the wars?

Not quite; the first bomber over Berlin was a Farman F.223.4
Similar looking but with 4 engines.
