Hello Boxsters,
Today is the 1st of June, 2026, and it is time for a new Free Download from the Boxart Den archive.
To continue with early kits, this weeks FD comes from long time favorite, Monogram.
The boxart is from the 1956, 1/77 scale kit of the famous Ford Tri-motor aircraft.
The tri-motor first flew in 1926, and almost 200 of them were built during production.
The kit represents the 4-AT version that was flown over the South Pole in 1929 by Richard Byrd.
Several tri-motors are still flying today.
I selected a baker''s dozen images for you enjoyment.

Loved building this kit - and dogs too! What an outstanding classic kit! Later, sadly, it's in 1/70 and didn't fit. Years later Airfix would do a 5AT in 1/72 but it had it's own problems!
Monogram would reissue this kit regularly through the '90s and on! I have most of them including the 'patch' issue from the early 'aughts!
Your photos also show two 5ATs; the Navy ship and the 'Port Clinton' photo. I have ridden both the EAA and Port Clinton ships and recommend both to everyone who has an opportunity to do so!

And the first picture is the 3-AT prototype for the Trimotor. Did Airfix correctly portray the 5-AT? I remember buying one to do a Marine Corps bird, but I never really looked at it that closely (different era in modelling, we didn’t have all the scrutinizers), and now it's buried in the storage room.

I still don’t scrutinize. 99% of what I build is for pure retro fun. No resin, no photoetch…ever!
