Hello Boxsters,
We are beginning the month of July, 2025, with another long sought after boxart from the Monogram Quarter Scale series of the 4-star kit era.
Kudos to Scott Dunn for filling in so many missing boxarts from this series.
This weeks FD is the 1962, Richard Locher art that was featured on the Mitsubishi A6M Zero kit.
This was the first accurate kit of the Zero in this scale and it still holds up well today.
Like all of the kits in this series, it had retractable landing gear, and few other moving features.
The first Zero took to the skies in 1939, and during WWII almost 11,000 of them were made in several versions.
At the start of WWII the Zero ruled the skies over the Pacific, but during the war the allies were able to eclipse it with new technology and aircraft designs.
By the end of the war the Zero was relegated to kamikaze missions.
I selected a dozen images of the Zero for your enjoyment.
All the images are 1280 pixels.

Jean,
These classic Monogram kits sure had distinctive box top art. Beautiful!
I kind of had a laugh at the Zeros on some dirt strip and the type on the
box says: "WW2 Japanese Carrier-Based Fighter". Where's the carrier?
I've seen a restored example flying at Chino Planes of Fames Museum
at Chino Airport in California. They restored many classic WW2 planes.
(BTW - the bottom photo, second from the right end does not come up.
The photo to the left of it comes up again. Computers do mess with us)
