Hello Boxsters,
It is hotter than the hinges of hell in my neck of the woods!
Ambient air temps are in the upper 90s, and with the humidity the feels like temp is well over 100F.
I am hunkered down in my office with the A/C keeping things cool.
This weeks Free Download is from Revell-UK and is for the 1/72 scale kit of the Consolidated PBY Catalina with RAF insignia that was released in 1972.
The Catalina was manufactured in several countries under license from Consolidated and over 3,300 of them were built.
They were in use all over the world by a long list of nations during WWII and afterwards.
The last ones still on duty were retired in 1982 from the Brazilian Air Force.
Several are still flying today at air shows and museums.
I selected a baker's dozen images for your pleasure.
All the images are 1280 pixels.

Another terrific download!
Sorry to hear about the hot weather. Last year we had 28 days of weather over triple digits in Boise, Idaho. Now relocated in Texas. Humidity is different, but we like it.

Cool to see alternate box art from different countries. I love the Black Cat art, and built many of them, but the Brit version is cool as well.

I have a Revell GB catalog from 1974, and their box art was pretty compelling. Thanks for posting, Jean.

Scott,
Your Revell 1974 GB catalog... Any images in the Box Art Den photo gallery?
I have the USA Revell 'Black Cat' kit. Bought off Flea-Bay some years ago but
the special exclusive 33 1/3 mini-LP wasn't included by the Seller. (Rats!)
But I found the recording on YouTube. Thank-God! for that, as I can listen.
At the Palm Springs Aviation Museum, I got close up to a Catalina that
was at the time being readied for a full restoration project. It had some
quite interesting Nose Art... The Millenium Falcon from Star Wars!

Jaime - I don’t have a scanner unfortunately. I would be happy to submit some photos, but I think the group wants high quality scans in the files.

I always loved this catalog, because it had the Beaufighter on the cover. I have always been a fan of the Beaufighter, and was thrilled when Revell released it in 1/32.

Well, I’m getting old - I pulled my Revell GB 1974 catalog, and it does NOT have the Beaufighter on the cover, although it is shown in their list of 1/32 kits (1974 was the first year for the Revell Beaufighter).

Interestingly, this catalog shows the Coastal Command Catalina, AND the Black Cat. In fact, many of the models have the U.S. box art.

Scott,
The Revell Beaufighter in 1/32 was a favorite kit of mine as well.
I so wanted to buy every 1/32 Revell WW-2 kit in their full line.
As a 12-year-old I drove my dad crazy as I could only pick one.
I'd look them over for 20-30 minutes. Sometimes for an hour.
Dad got me started with model kits, so was his own fault, lol.

Great subject, I've built the Revell "Cat" in a number of paint schemes and markings. The English camo scheme and the Black cat are two favorites.  My top choice is the USCG, painted in peace time SAR appearance.  Here's my Monogram build with droppable lifeboat and my Revell WWII 1:72 rescue version.

Very nicely done on both Catalinas, Mike. Thanks for sharing with us. I've got a Monogram PBY-5 in the stash. I wish I'd held out for the PBY-5A, I'd have had a lot more markings options, but I wanted to make sure I had a 1/48 PBY and didn't know that there'd be a -5A coming down the pike not long after. Did I learn my lesson, well, my stash would probably say "no!"

If you decide to wait for the version you really want, it will never come. However, if you buy the version you don't want, just so you have ONE, the version you want will appear in 6 months or so. CATCH-22! But you can always sell the one you didn’t want (ha-ha, right), but you can't wish the right one into existence.
