CLASS OF 2018

PTSA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Bowie PTSA Scholarship application is now available and attached to this email. Please return all applications to the Bowie office no later than March 30th.

PROJECT GRADUATION

Project Graduation is Wednesday, May 30 at High 5 in Lakeway. Students depart by bus from Bowie HS- details to follow. This is a traditional fun all-nighter for graduates to celebrate the end of high school with their friends in a safe environment. If you have any questions, please visit our 2018 Project Graduation website.

We are rolling along with over 100 students signed up! Tickets/Membership for Project

Graduation is $135. After April 6, 2018, tickets/membership are $150.

Registration forms are attached or can be found in the Bowie Front Office.

DONATIONS NEEDED

The Class of 2018 Boosters- Project Graduation needs your help! We host After School Food Sales for two weeks at Bowie beginning March 19th. We need volunteers for a short time at the end of the school day and drink and candy donations. Snack donations can be delivered to the Bowie Front Office. Thank you Parents! To volunteer or donate:

BALDWIN GRADS

Baldwin Elementary is looking for the 2018 graduating seniors who attended Baldwin the first year we opened. We have started planning a special afternoon to celebrate our first graduating class and we need to get in touch with the students. 2018 Vision & Voice Winners…

Bowie had some winners in the district's annual Vision and Voice Poetry contest for the fourth year in a row. The winning poems will be paired with artwork by an ACC students and be turned into posters that will be displayed all throughout the district and on ACC campuses. The winners are: Peyton Bellman, Junior, and Saylor Hinthorn, Senior. Amy Shreeve and Justine Lockhardt received honorable mentions for their poems. These poets were chosen from over 500 submissions. Bowie World Guard on the Road to Nationals…

James Bowie World Guard wins their first regional of the season. The World Guard performed with a show set inspired by Yayoi Kusama and set to the music of Pink Floyd. The score the team earned currently places them into the top 10 nationally.

 

Powerlifters Work to a Strong Finish…

Two of the strongest girls at Bowie- Anna Ippolito and Austyn Keelty, participated at the Regional Powerlifting meet. They both qualified to compete in the toughest region in Texas and began ranked at the bottom and worked their way to a strong finish.  

 

TFA State Champions in Duet Acting Earn 10th Overall…

At the 2018 TFA State Tournament, Grace Widner and Reed Syzdek became the State Champions in Duet Acting! Out of 650 competing schools, Bowie earned the 10th place Team Sweepstakes and out of over 1,000 competing schools, the team earned 9th place Team for State Qualification. State Finalist: Payton Bellman for Congressional Senate (top 15). State Semi-finalists: Luke Evans in Humorous Interpretation (top 18); Zach Houdek in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking (top 18); Amy Shreeve in Congressional Debate- House (top 60);

State Quarter-finalists (top 36): Jack Brady and Kaedon Solana in Duet Acting; Luke Evans and Jamie Muras in Duet Acting; Riley McCue and Alyssa Shumaker in Duet Acting; Luke Evans in Dramatic Interpretation; Katie Norris in Dramatic Interpretation; Kaedon Solana in Humorous Interpretation; Amy Shreeve in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking; Tate Weston in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking; Natalie Guerra in Prose Interpretation; Jack Maedgen in Impromptu Speaking; Brianna Rodriguez in Impromptu Speaking and Gillian Sitler in Impromptu Speaking.

 

Very Talented Art Students…

At the Visual Arts Scholastic art competition, students were critiqued on their original artworks in front of judges. 115 Bowie students scored in the highest category and earned a medal for their pieces. There were approximately 1,900 entries at VASE and 137 pieces were selected and qualified for State. Bowie artists who are state qualifiers are: Sigrid Lamberg, Avery Oh, Claudia Bastos, Hajer Deyaf, Payton Myers, Sarah Bagh, Jesse Kimbrough and Drew McDonald.

 

Musical Theatre Award Nominations…

Bowie received six top nominations from the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards. The nominees are: Best Actress Madeline Sparkes; Best Supporting Actress Riley Sugrue; Best Choreography Morgan Andrews and Cat Chavanne, lead choreographers; Best Technical Execution Shelby Kelly, production manager; Best Orchestra - conducted by Reid Paxton; Best Vocal Direction - Randy Cantu.

 

Girls Soccer Has Strong Finish to District Play…

The JV Girls Soccer Team completed district last with a 7-0 win over San Marcos, and they are now undefeated district champions! The JV girls didn't allow a single goal against them throughout district! The Varsity Girls Soccer Team completed district play with a 1-0 win over San Marcos, making the team the undefeated district champions. A big shout out goes to the defenders and goalkeepers for only allowing 2 goals against us all season.  Those awesome ladies are Kendall Johnson, Avery Schmidt, Haley Farr, Hannah Wolfson, Bergen Bible, Brooke Folliard, Charlotte Taylor, Gillian Sitler, and Micayla Thompson.

 

Who's Who 2018 Honorees…

Twenty-four seniors have been selected by the faculty on the Who’s Who committee. These students contribute to the leadership and character of the Bowie Community. The Honorees are: Morgan Andrews, James Counihan, Tyler David, Shravani Deo, Haroon Dossani, Diana Dunn, Oliver Gorrie, Natalie Guerra, Jennifer Hoang, Mateo Huerta, Piper Kopser, Cade Lee, Bryan Moreno, Blake Moyer, Oluwaseyi Odufuye, Noora Omar, Alejandra Rivera, Emily Robinett, Shannon Ross, Avery Schmidt, Joshua Smythe-Macaulay, Madeline Sparkes, Matthew Wheeler, and Grace Widner.

 

Choir Delivers Outstanding Performances…

The “Silver Sound” ensemble, our elite vocal chamber ensemble, competed against 40 of the best choir programs in the state. We delivered several outstanding performances at the contest. The ensemble earned STRAIGHT 1’s from all three judges winning a “Superior Performance” Trophy.

 

One-Act Play Sweeps Top Awards at District & Advances to Bi-District…

The UIL one-act play company of Violet Sharp took top honors at the district meet, winning the district championship with a rating of straight ones from the panel of judges. The company advances to the Bi-District contest. Along with winning the top prize of the night, the following students won individual awards: Best Actress - Maddy Sparkes; Best Actor - Reed Syzdek; Best Technical Crew – Shelby Kelly, Julia Cabrera, Samule Fafel, Joe Morales, Alyssa Shumaker; All Star Cast - Morgan Sanders; Honorable Mention -All Star Cast - Natalie Guerra; Outstanding Technician - Shelby Kelly. The production is directed by Betsy Cornwell and Marco Bazan. Technical direction by Hannah Huerta.

Boys & Girls Soccer: The Bowie Boys and Girls soccer programs will hold a camp for incoming freshman in the evenings at Austin Soccer Academy June 4-7. Register at www.dawgsoccer.com
