Hi There -
Looking to get a hold of a coach/admin/president of the MVHS boys club, but I'm not sure that I have the most current information. If this e-mail address is not correct, I would greatly appreciate being forwarded the current information, as well as it is known.

My name is Ben Messerly and I believe I'm contacting Head Coach Ed Young. I graduated from MV in '07 and played for the club my sophomore and junior year. Ed, I played under you and Chad for two years when you were our assistant. It's been a while since we've spoken. After MV, I went on to play four years for the club at Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine), serving as recruiting director, and then captain, playing #11, #15, and #10. I must say, too, that my training and experience at MV (under yours and Chad's coaching) had me at on the starting 15 at the end of my freshman year.

I graduated from Bowdoin last May, and it is on my club's behalf that I am contacting you. We have a very strong alumni group, and in particular, there are some guys who are deeply invested in building a successful program. The alumni are reaching out to high performing juniors who are looking to get a first rate education and play rugby with an awesome team. Given that this is unofficial recruiting, the alums are nonetheless offering anything they can to provide interested students with admission assistance., e.g. arranging a top notch visit to the school, etc.

Ideally, I'd love to get an e-mail contact list of any or all juniors so that I, or some alums, could provide them with an e-mail containing more information about Bowdoin and Bowdoin Rugby. Or at least, perhaps you could make a shout out to the team (at practice, via e-mail, the website, whatever), saying that an MVHS rugby alum wants Mustangs to come play rugby at his college. And you could provide them with my e-mail address. Unfortunately, I'm unable to make an appearance in person, because I'd love to stop by just to say hello anyway. But alas, I'm moving out of town in a week.

Finally, I just want to say, Bowdoin Rugby was an unbelievable experience. The club is strong and the alumni are involved and supportive. In a school of only 1,700, we sport a club of 40 regular ruggers. We always play A and B games. We've got a strong coaching staff, we have what is well-regarded as the best pitch in the North East (seriously), and the guys are the best you'll ever meet. Last year, the club was particularly successful, going undefeated in 8 games, only to lose in the first round of the playoffs to the very strong Tufts club from Boston. We also have a very strong women's team.

Really, I'd be proud to say that MV is becoming a feeder school to Bowdoin academics and Bowdoin rugby. I know the MVHS club has a strong history and I'm sure you're still thriving. I'd love to see some of that ability and character head off to my alma mater.

I appreciate your consideration and I look forward to hearing back from you. I believe in establishing connections between clubs around the country and the world.

Sincerely,
Ben Messerly
