Dear Singers,
I have been asked to share some of my experiences with Down East Singers and the Lemonade Choir. It is my pleasure to do so.
Singing in an opera house or a church is surely something I miss . Before a concert I observed the excitement, experienced some jitters, and at the conclusion welcomed the enthusiastic applause from the audience. I was glad to be a part of it.
Covid 19 certainly has changed the way in which we can perform. Facing these challenging times, a novel idea was brought forward for our December concert: singing in Tony’s hayfield along the Saint George River, masks on, 12 feet apart. I decided to give it a try. What I didn’t know is how much I would savor the experience.
Singing outside with others, who were reaching out to bring music to our community, moved me. I loved the tranquility of the field near the water. After watching the concert my daughter said, “Singing in nature gave the concert a sacred feeling”. I couldn’t agree with her more.
When we return to perform in an opera house, I will reflect back to these present days. I will be reminded that we did make beautiful music in a hayfield and gifted it to the community. I will be glad I was a part of it.
Now you have an opportunity this spring to sing selected movements of Rachmaninoff in Tony’s hayfield. Will this be another moving experience? I can only imagine !
I do hope you will join us.
Regards,
Judy Pelletier
