It doesn't always have to be black and white: the classic design of the official watch of the Swiss Federal Railways is reinterpreted in this modern essence watch in intense ocean blue. The 41 mm watch with a color-coordinated case, bracelet and dial is a real eye-catcher. The textile strap is made from recycled material and lined with skin-friendly natural cork. Thanks to the innovative bracelet system, the bracelet can be changed in seconds, giving the watch a completely new look. The watch is suitable for a 20.00 mm bracelet.

Mondaine launches an international innovation in the watch industry with the new series 'essence'. The first-ever watch created using a castor oil composite for the casing, Mondaine's SBB essence also uses natural rubber for its strap and comes in a reusable case made of recycled PET. Based on exploring these recycled and renewable raw materials, essence keeps the same Swiss Railways clock design sensibility, while pushing the brand - and the watch industry - to think about ways to create more sustainably.

With SBB essence, Mondaine displays not only a spirit of innovation - as the first watch company to explore using castor oil in its manufacturing - but also a clear signal for sustainability and increasing the use of eco-friendly materials.

The SBB essence's clean and striking aesthetic is as significant as the modern materiality at its core. Welcoming an uncomplicated way of thinking and living, it features the sleek and streamlined iconic display of the Swiss railways clock, for which Mondaine is well known. And, in timeless style, it combines classic Swiss craftsmanship with innovative manufacturing methods. essence is composed mainly of renewable raw materials: The casing is made of 70% castor oil and glass fibers, and the watchband is made of approximately 40% natural rubber. Mondaine takes a holistic approach to the idea of the resource cycle. Consequently, essence is supplied in soft, gray felt-like packaging manufactured from recycled PET bottles that can be easily reused as a protective casing for mobile phones, sunglasses, and more.

The Swiss brand Mondaine Watch is the world's first climate-neutral watchmaker. Using innovative approaches in the sourcing of materials, the production, and even the distribution, Mondaine either reduces or compensates for any CO2 it emits.

As far back as 1951, Mondaine Watch used solar energy to power its plant. Today, the manufacturing plant in Biberist produces 80 percent of all the energy required. But transportation of goods, traveling, and manufacturing still create emissions. By working with NGOs specializing in reforestation, both locally and in Indonesia, Mondaine Watch compensates for these emissions in order to be 100 percent carbon-neutral.

Ronnie Bernstein, one of the two descendants of the Mondaine Watch founder, explains: "Sustainability has always been important to our parents. But we were ahead of the times as consumers did not yet comprehend what we were trying to do."

More and more of today's consumers are catching on to the importance of sustainability. And the Mondaine essence line is the logical answer of this Swiss watchmaker with sustainability itched in their DNA.
