Friends,

We're excited to team up with SEEDS and invite folks to a Summer Planting Workshop at the Garden of Eatin', which BB helped install a couple of years ago at the Durham Farmers Market.  This garden serves as a small example of an auxiliary type of (really really free!) 'market', and proof that marginal spaces can house low-maintenance, high yielding perennial food crops ALL OVER THE CITY if we gave ourselves the chance!   This summer we've seen that edible landscape produce:
  • a 5 gallon bucket worth of Goumi Berries,
  • a goodly amount of Serviceberries,
  • an Elberta Peach that has about 25 healthy peaches in only its 2nd year,
  • numerous tea, medicinal, nitrogen-fixing, and insectary plants
On Saturday July 11th at 9AM, during the Farmers Market, we're going to do an interactive workshop with folks and plant ten Rabbiteye blueberries where one lonely blueberry (filled with fruit!) currently resides.  (See attached flyer)

We'll be demonstrating our (un) patented planting method, which includes a slightly different mix of soil amendments and a nutrient bath that makes summer planting easy.  We'll also discuss care and maintenance for these yummy, reliable, and over-yielding fruit shrubs in the context of perennial polycultures.  We'll also be planting Hardy Kiwis and Grapes on the AMAZING arbor that our friend and colleague Kevin Svara has just finished engineering with locally milled cedar at the garden!

Please pass on this flyer and hang it up at your workplace, forward to your networks, paste over 'downtown sexy' signs with, and drop on unsuspecting friends.  We truly hope some of you stop by and see us there!

Peace,
BB Crew
