Hey Friends,
We hope you all have weathered the cold and are preparing to break out of your cocoons as spring approaches. Bountiful Backyards is not in full gear yet but we are gearing up for the spring season. Over the winter we have gained the support of Sarah Vroom & David Benfield and are excited about what they will add to the mix and are in the process of moving our offices into shared space with the Durham Bike Coop (723 N. Mangum) and look forward to more collaboration with those folks.
We have a number of workshops in the pipelines and you can stay up to date on them
here, details for some are still in the works so bear with us.
The first in our spring series is a
Mushroom Workshop with Gregory Bonito, details below. Since this is the right time of year to inoculate your logs, join us on
March 14th to get hands-on guidance inoculating logs you can take to your backyard. Our mushroom workshop in the fall was a success, check out some of the great photos
here to get a better picture of what goes on.
RSVP by emailing us <
bountiful...@gmail.com> with "Mushroom Workshop" in the caption (or "Herb Walk", etc).
If March 14th doesn't work for you, you might also be interested in the workshop Fungus Among Us be facilitated by our friends Rob Jones and Tahz Walker out at the Stone House on March 15th. Details
here.
Looking forward to spring!

Mushroom Workshop -- with Gregory Bonito
Edible mushrooms are an important and underutilized aspect of any
home garden that are easy to cultivate! At this workshop we will
innoculate two types of edible mushroom logs, Shiitake and Maiitake
Mushrooms. We will also create a mycelium habitat or 'patch' at our
Demonstration Garden so that people can replicate this amazing
gardening technique at their own homes. Gregory's specialty is tracking
the DNA of mycelium for identification and propagation, and he will be
on hand to explain the magical world of mycelium and its relation to us
all. Space on this workshop is limited to 20 people and the cost is $35
for three logs to take home. Please bring a cordless drill with a
5/16ths drill bit and a small mallet/hammer. Children are welcome.
WHAT: Mushroom Workshop
WHERE: 723 N. Mangum St. Durham (in the space behind the office)
WHEN: March 14th, 12:00pm
COST: $35 Suggested Donation (for 3 take home inoculated logs)

919.636.2926Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth. This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. -Chief Seattle
