Subject: July meeting and joint conference
Hi: It’s been awhile since my last contact with many of you. Firstly, this is to let you know that everything has been ok, enough budget money and good health for all of us on the fruit crew. Secondly, there are some big events converging in Saskatoon in mid-July. The schedules for the meetings and conferences have not been finalized but I am letting you know early so you can save the dates. The head of our fruit program, Dr. Bob Bors bob....@usask.ca , is organizing the 2012 NAFEX meeting.
The NAFEX meeting (which will include tours of University facilities and research orchards, profession presentations from faculty and our provincial fruit specialist, workshops, short presentations, forms and other sharing sessions and possibly panel discussions) occurs (July 18 to 21) on the last few days of a joint conference of Canadian Horticulturists, Agronomists, and Extension Agents. It is expected that several fruit breeders and researchers will be attending the Canadian Society of Horticulture Sciences Conference, and that they will have an additional concurrent session on Thursday. Registration costs for the NAFEX meeting will be $50/day in advance or $65 at the door for Thursday or Friday (The tours of campus facilities on Wednesday are free). The cost for the tour on Saturday, July 21, has not yet been determined by the SFGA (Saskatchewan Fruit Growers Association); it will depend if enough interest is generated to rent a bus or not. It should all be finalized by late January and posted to the NAFEX (North American Fruit Explorers) website www.nafex.org/ and University of Saskatchewan’s fruit website www.fruit.usask.ca . If some of you have suggestions regarding topics/events/speakers for the Nafex meeting, please let us know a.s.a.p. and we’ll have time to consider them during this early stage of planning.
Until later

This would be a great opportunity for your community to see 1st hand this expanding industry. This winter has seen unprecentented interest with commercial interests from all over, as a result, BC has become interested in the commercialization of this berry as well.
If you think ther would be any interest from your group to attend, please let me know and we would do our best to host your stay in SK.
Please visit www.lahaveforests.com for up to date info on the developement of this new industry.
Bugsy, have you heard of the band "Deep Dark Woods"? They're from SK., and I get the impression you would enjoy them if you are not aware of them.
Hope to hear from you soon,
