CASA will cover the cost of your referee certification. Register for reimbursement to qualify.
Boulder referees earn $70 per game as a Center Referee and $50 per game as an Assistant Referee. Once you complete the online USSF digital certification and get your uniform, you can be added to the assigning platform and start receiving games.
Refereeing is considered a small business by the IRS. You can deduct work‑related expenses—mileage, uniform costs, and a portion of your wifi and cell service—but you must file a Schedule C with your tax return.
Example: If you ref a 9 AM game, play at 11, then ref another game, your mileage is deductible because you worked. If you only play, it isn’t. Refereeing provides income and legitimate tax write‑offs.
