*By Anita Seitz* The topic of transitioning Colorado communities off gas heating has generated controversial headlines following a recent decision by state regulators requiring Xcel Energy to cut climate pollution from its gas system 41% by 2035. Despite Xcel’s own company-wide goal of delivering carbon-free energy by 2050, the utility and its industry partners continue to resist near-term steps to get the company even partway to its commitment. Late-night RTD New Year’s service leaves out Flatiron Flyer Recently, RTD announced it would be running late-night service on New Year’s Eve for the light rail and commuter rail networks, as well as on routes 15, 83L and the 16th Street FreeRide. This is fantastic news, and will provide many outside of Boulder County a safe way home, but provides no additional service for the northwest metro. Late-night New Year’s service has been an issue for over a year, and was discussed by the RTD Board in 2024. We too need a way to get home safely from festivities, and we need leadership on the board that

The 20th century was horrible for the Everglades. The broad shallow river, one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet, was labeled wasteland and ruthlessly dammed, carved into parcels, dried out and diverted into near oblivion. But at the end of the century, 25 years ago this month, Democrats and Republicans from Florida and Washington, D.C., joined forces and signed the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan into law. The ambitious 68-project plan was supposed to cost $7.8 billion, it was supposed to take 30 years to complete and it was supposed to save what was left of the Everglades
