There are so many things to cover in a 'what can go wrong ' workshop. EMI and ESD seem simpler by comparison.
For any project that you hope to sell as a complete device, you will need to deal with some sort of EMC. It is actually pretty easy to pass FCC part 15 or CE, even with two layer boards and no 'prayer beads', if you do your layout properly.
Project problems always start with power, and cover bypassing, unterminated inputs, high impedance inputs where not actually needed, surge current demands, crystal/clock problems... etc.
