Hello Friends, Dear ones, everyone,
Many of you know I am a deeply passionate person that I don't merely talk, but I do my best to work for the things I believe in. Since 2009, that has meant work with ADAPT.
a national grass-roots community that organizes disability rights activists to engage in nonviolent direct action, including civil disobedience, to assure the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to live in freedom.
This is important because many people live in Nursing Homes and other institutions, not because they want to, but because home supports and services weren't offered, because housing is unavailable or inaccessible, because lobbying and institutional basis will
fund institutions but not Communities providing a little help, much cheaper--at home.
Now with AHCA proposing to bar insurance for people with per-existing conditions, once again, weakening Medicare and Medicaid, potentially losing federal match monies and many in home services and supports ADAPT fought decades for, I again join ADAPT, to potentially
and peacefully break one law, in the service of greater laws--the civil and human rights
of people with disabilities to live in freedom. I am blessed and happy to be able to, because without such work, I and all disabled people would be less free, happy and community engaged.
I got a late start this year because I moved to NC, and have been struggling to unpack, set up care for two, travel, etc., but I will be on the upcoming ADAPT ACTION, and at it's Fun Run, to support the critical work we do.
You can sponsor me, and Denver ADAPT (No NC chapter yet, been busy) here: http://adaptfunrun.net/runner/message/1224 Am happy to answer question
