Dear Mr. Percy,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Disability Integration Act. I appreciate you taking the time to write. It
is an honor to serve you in the United States Senate and I hope you will continue to write with your thoughts and ideas on moving our country forward.
On December 18, 2015, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced S. 2427, the Disability Integration Act of 2015. This legislation would require state
and local governments to offer community-based care services through Medicaid as an alternative to institutionalization for individuals with disabilities who are in need of long-term services. It also prohibits insurance providers from denying coverage for
these services. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions for further review.
Every individual with a disability has unique medical and personal needs, and it is important that individuals and families have the flexibility to
choose the care options that are best suited for their particular situations. Rest assured, I will keep your thoughts in mind should this legislation come to a vote in the Senate.
Again, thank you for contacting me, and do not hesitate to do so again when an issue is important to you.
